@Jim_H said in FNG: Where to start...:
Hi folks, another FNG to bother you…I Appoligize in advance for being a PITA… ok last did the falcon 3 and the 4… then went to sea again, circ 1990… finally time and money met up again…so back… just built up a rig I think should work nicely, specs below at the end… where do you suggest I start wrangling this beast to pull it togeather??? It is a bit of a steep climb …like balistic…Win 10 pro is up, falcon 4 installed, BMS 4.37 (I think is the current branch) loaded. Irtrack is due in today, tm worthog hotas kit is on the floor staring at me. I would prefer not to bleed to much sorting all the kit out …voice attack, or ir tracker, hotas, I am guessing one of you found a system u found that works better then just “going for it”… do x 1st, then y next, then z… on a fresh built pc… thanks. And again sorry if being a pita… jim
Welcome (back) Jim!
First thing to do is take your specs, copy them, then go to Profile/Edit Profile and Paste them under “Signature” and Save. They are good to have under each post to make Airtex feel bad… 😁
For your monitors, you are using surround (and I will assume GSync enabled) so good to go. Airtex’s advice on the FOV is spot on, what I do is set it where I like it as “Base” and use the mouse wheel (by default) to zoom in/out of the HUD as desired. Just play with the numbers until its where you want it. As for TrackIR5, just run it before starting BMS, set your “Center” and “Disable” keys, check movement in the TIR screen , minimize and start BMS. It will see it and it just works once you are in the cockpit. For HOTAS I always advise setting it up using the BMS Splash screen (top right tabs) which is the built in former “Alternative Launcher”. It is pretty intuitive (Axis assign for all axises, Key mapping for button/hat/switch presses). Set your Jstick up with Trim/CMS/TMS/DMS /trigger/ ordinance drop, etc. For the Throttle you can use the “Release” function in Keymapping to get most non-DX switch positions to work or run a Target script that assigns every switch position a DX# press (this is my method). I also print overlays on heavy photo paper for my throttle as the functions lasered in make no sense to me, I assign what I need/use (and have different ones for different sims). Listen to Airtex, learn to use radar and fire A-A missiles, hop in Instant Action and blow some planes out of the sky and have fun! Oh, and highly advise to get pedals with toe brakes, not a necessity (especially in BMS) but if you ever feel like some WWI/WWII action they are essential…
