Google for tiles allowed?
-
Hi,
I would like to use the Google satellite map for Korea e.g. for city tiles.
AFAIK is it allowed for personally using, but not for commercial, but how about sharing here? Is this already commercial?
Do someone know how I can handle this?TIA

Since it’s not commercial no problem. But IIRC u must get their permission.
On the other hand Bing are totally ok. So you can use their’s.
I have posted a procedure and video how to get them ready cut from unity and two plug-ins. -

I assume the answer is in there somewhere. -

Folks know Google Earth has a flight sim built into it, right? A crude F-16 even…what would be cool is if we had an option to let that drive/feed BMS OTW as we fly BMS…but we’d also need to be able to use real-world geo coords.

@Arty
Bing, Google, etc…. don’t own the images they display, they license them from their respective owners so they cannot give anything to anyone, free or otherwise. -

I assume the answer is in there somewhere.Yes, it is.
Read my sig……LOL!!
GE provides a “Fair use” provision (they have to in the U.S. as most original imagery was obtained via U.S. government satellites and therefore are public property. Google made a deal with the government to use\enhance that content…sigh. You CAN get most of the imagery from the USGS portal, but they are not “Painted” so purty…LOL)
Bing as mentioned, is an alternative, as well as Blue Marble.
…just don’t go and try to sell your tile’s ala TWALTIE……;)Cheers,
demer
(BTW joining the GE SD team helps in obtaining the latest and greatest imagery w\o the watermark…;) ) -
…and one single tile is ~ 1km to RL?
EDIT:
And is it better to use 100m/500f range in the map, or 250m/1000f? -

I knew it! At that moment I edit m post, there comes an answer!
But all well…
Ok, one single tile is ~1 km, and is it now better to use 100m/500f range in the map, or 250m/1000f?
IMO there is no great loss in quality, e.g. if you fly near the ground…This is 100m…
This is 250m…
And a stock tile…
TIA

U need:
1. Bing map developer account (free, if you have hotmail u just activate the bing account)
2. Unity (3d program like 3ds max, u don’t need it if u have already the tiles)
3. Terrain Composer (unity plugin, u don’t need it if u have already the tiles)
4. World Composer (unity plugin, u don’t need it if u have already the tiles)
5. Photopaint or Photoshop
