HAVE I UPDATED MY 4.33 CORRECTLY.
-
Hi, and a fond hello to all members on the BMS Boards by way of introduction.
I am a total Noob to Falcon 4.33.u3 but I am the proud owner of the original boxed version of Falcon 4 along with its various manuals and maps and everything else that was in the box when I purchased it new from a Computer Fair approximately 20 or so years ago (it may be more, the time flys by fast nowadays (pardon the pun!)). I flew the original Flight Sim quite a bit and alongside IL2 Sturmovik regarded them both as the best Flight Sims for their game eras.
I spotted the current BMS F4.33 on you tube a few months ago and decided after reading up and seeing the improvements that BMS have made to the game, I thought I have got to give this a go. So, I located my oriinal disk, loaded up F4 and then moved on to the updates, and this is where I have hit a problem and this is where I hope someone can advise me.
I have followed the procedure and managed to install all the updates (as far as I am aware) right up to update 3.
1. When flying, I have not seen the ground detail that is evident in the videos on YouTube and consequently raises my suspicions that after successfully installing BMS 4.33.U1, I might have done something wrong with U2 and U3.
2. On the Front End Screen (the first screen after launching the game) I note that the Version Details in the bottom right hand corner (in white letters) says "FALCON 4.33.1 (x64) Build 15227.I basically need to know if this is the correct version number for a game that has had only the updates installed to bring it up to update 3.
It has also crossed my mind that some of these more detailed ground details maybe connected with one of the new campaign maps.
Any advice would be gratefully received so I can get on to learning to fly this damn thing again.

Hi,
It seems you haven’t updated your BMS 4.33 correctly (i.e. to the U3 version), as this is what the version ID string should look like: BMS 4.33.3 (x64) Build 16068.
As regards the terrain detail, the update is not critical in this respect. After installing 4.33 you have only one stock theatre at your disposal, the Korean Theatre of Operations (plus some other campaigns but all played over the same terrain). What you may have seen on YouTube is the OstSee Theatre by TomCatz; there the detail level is very impressive indeed and the stock Korea may look a bit simplistic in comparison (even though actually it is quite nice and contains an ample number of 3D objects for you to bomb ).All in all, I think something went wrong along your installation path. Try again, observing the procedure described in the docs to the letter. Good luck!

Have a read of that linked thread to see where you’ve gone wrong. Good luck!

Thanks very much. I take on board your points TommyGun and will look at the advice given in your link Ice. Hopefully I will see in the skys soon. I used to fly regularly some years ago in Multiplaye IL2 FB but drifted away for various reasons, one of the main ones being the time that wasted whilst waiting for all players to get into the room and get sorted for their flights, then there was dodgy internet where I was driopping links or the host was resulting in us all being kicked but I think things are a lot better now. Anyway, to work with trying to get my version updated and will let you jknow if successful or not.

A great tutorial there, Ice, and it’s not an easy thing to explain the whole process in a step-by-step manner. I’m past that point, but I appreciate your work nonetheless.

Thanks! Best to make it detailed and make it once rather than have to keep going back…

Well there we go, thats sorted. Completely my own fault. Thanks for your help on that. Perhaps I can start my training now with some proper youtube videos which I have been collecting, from the likes of Krause Supernova and Burner Tactical. Already got the start up memorised and have done a few take offs, landings and navigation flights (all VHR) but now I think I would like to get into the weaponry. Whilst my old gamebook from Falcon 4 contains a mass of info, and I have downloaded the Online Manual for 4.33 and am wondering is there any better way you can suggest/recommend.

Best suggestion –- check out the dates on those videos. What worked when that video was made may no longer work NOW with 4.33.3. I would suggest you follow the TEs and read the manual as you go along, then come here for any more questions. Nothing more frustrating than following a video but not getting the same result, only to find out that it no longer works the way it did in the video

+1 Ice.
Most of Supernova’s stuff is current, but Krause has a bunch of tutorials are 4.32 -
In the Doc´s folder you have the manuals, check out the Training manual.
