Thrustmaster Warthog and MFDs/USB hub question
-
Hi gents,
A dummy question from a newbie seeking for advise:
I’ve placed order for the above combos and knowing that they will take up 4 USB slots of my computer, I am considering to buy an external powered USB hub for them, but I’m not sure if they work with an external hub or not since I’ve heard that some sticks are not happy with that.
Thanks in advance.

At least with cheap USB hubs I had problems (not with thrustmaster products, but with others).
You might check if your mainboard has pins for more USB connectors, then you can buy something like

or

MFD’s, do not know. The WH work well at a passive Hub. The stick and the throttle take ~100mA…
In your case (active Hub) it should be fine for all four ports, because *each port can/should handle up to 500mA. Me, because of using a passive Hub, have to look that the consumption is not higher then 500mA (IMO 400mA is better).

Both my MFD’s and Warthog HOTAS are all plugged in via a powered USB Hub and work just fine for me.

Stick and Throttle on a rear extension plate plugged into a MoBo USB2 Header and the MFDs on a unpowered hub in the monitor stand plugged into the IO plate
Personally I would avoid using A HUB for the Hog

Thanks folks for your replies!!

I used all my PC slots for a while and had issues with one device dropping out randomly. I bought a powered USB hub ($20) and the problem disappeared. The MFDs, Warthog joystick and throttle, CH rudders, TrackIR, and Lilliput monitor have zero issues now.
