Source for Hall sensors for Cougar?

Thanks for that info. Is the evenstrain mod still available? The linked page indicates all versions listed are discontinued.
I might consider the FSSB mod, but not right now. I’m currently……“underemployed” and money is tight.

this is the one I used in my Cougar throttle and rudder pedals . Pricey but working flawlessly http://www.novotechnik.com/pdfs/RSC2800_analog_e.pdf

Go FSSB or FCC, drop in mod and no worries about springs, pots, gimbals and etc… I did the the FSSB and dropped it in and no cal. It was spot on! Worth the money cause no headaches. No slop, just screw, pull and go. Many a crew chief will love that… Loving the FSSB, no issues. Springs are so B.C.

I bought a pair of the sensors described previously. No trouble, they don’t require you to have an account with them.
Cost on the Hall sensors is 83 dollars each, and you will have to fabricate your own mounting bracket and shim for the control shaft, as it’s a 1/8" shaft and the original pots have 1/4" D flatted shafts.

Hey there… Just note that Hall sensors are not just a drop in replacement. Also the flaw with the Cougar is that the stock gimbals are made with a softer metal which wear with time. This torques the POTS in odd ways and basically wears them out quicker. If you want Halls you have to go with one of the mods and I don’t think Ian is doing his anymore. I just talked with Greg about 2 weeks ago (Evenstrain) and he isn’t doing them either. I could reach out to him to see if he has any parts left. Shoot me a PM and I can give you his email.

Does the Cubpilot Joystick mod with hall sensors work on the latest Thrustmaster Hotus Cougar ? The pot metal gimbals in my cougar just broke. I know about the FSSB Mod, but that’s a little to much for my Bank Account.

No more Cubpilot mods either.

hmmm could we also add here and some links or guides for how to install them in the cougar? This would be nice to have all in one place and fit it in my hotlist also.
thanx guys as I’m looking for it also for my cougar throttle. -
Hi,
While a good idea, as mentioned before it’s not that easy (impossible) to just describe how to install hall sensors into a stock cougar / throttle.
The mods from IJ and Evenstrain completely replaced the stock gimbals and were designed to match the hall sensors. The stock gimbals are not designed to take the hall sensors but only the stock potentiometers. The shaft of the potentiometers probably differs from the hall sensors as would the required mounting bracket. Also as mentioned before it might not even be a good idea as the play of the stock gimbals may cause a shear force on the sensors thus damaging them.
Even in the throttle, Cubpilots hall sensor mod consisted of a sensor, a new mounting bracket, some kind of crank shaft and a driving rod to drive the sensor. So again the hall sensor did not simply replace the stock potentiometer.
Bottom line,
In order to install hall sensors in a stock cougar system you need to mod some parts around it, at the very least taking care for mounting the sensors and driving the shaft.
Altogether that would be a new hall-sensor drop-in mod for the stock cougar. Not impossible but not done yet, that’s why no installation guide exist.
Cheers!

Go to Viperpits.org and search for hall sensor mods. One of the people there modded a Cougar for about twenty dollars and gave instructions on how to do it. This was several years ago.
