HUD symbology modification/adjustment
-
Greetings Falconers… First off, I’m a total newbie in simulators, military jets & modding but I’m very passionate, I’ve been at it for about a year now but it’s going slow. I’m trying to make a simple modification to the F-16 Head Up Display symbology, to bring it to par with the real thing. As I said, I am relatively new to this and I have never got anywhere close to the real jet and have no experience with the real thing whatsoever, but I have noticed from real HUD tapes that there are some minor (sort of) differences, I have no clue about the different blocks differences but the bulk of the HUD tapes I watched have these differences from the BMS sim. The most prominent thing that I would really like to mod is the roll indicator in the bottom of the HUD when you’re not having your DED or PFL selected for HUD.
What I want is simple (but I don’t know how to do it), is to move that roll indicator about an inch down so that it’s right below the 10 degree line when the aircraft is on the ground & parked (or moving but no brakes are used). I’m actually rather confused as the the actual location of that indicator between different blocks/countries of an F-16, but I see that in the game they’re all at the same location regardless of the aircraft block. I appreciate in advance any help on how to do this.
Note: I am not in any way pointing fingers to the makers & current developers (BMS) of this amazing game, I know they’re publishing their (really tedious & really fine work) work for free that I still appreciate & thank them for.

Hi and welcome!
Nothing you can do on your side. This is not data.
But if you have some absolute clues about errors, feel free to report for bug (please ensure it is not already implemented before posting anything).

If you don’t mind me asking, if it isn’t data, what is it?

Ah right. My non-programming savvy me is showing here :P. I guess there is nothing to do but report this on the bugs section like you said then.

Can you have the video here? Maybe i should be able to check the version / block of the aircraft.

Here is a video …. where you can also see what is missing in the current BMS 4.32 U7 HUD. I also know that some symbols or displayed info have somthing to do with M tape, i know EPAF is on top of the latest M tapes.
Enjoy !!

Beside the Link 16 stuff and the DTS stuff, it’s the same ;).
-
The TGT box info is Link 16 too ? and the waypoints symbols in the HUD too?
-
Nope but the STPT is just the ability to customize the name. Difficult to render in Falcon for the moment because it will require the ability to change the name in the flight planner UI.
For the target, it’s very new, M6 i think. Si its normal to not have it in Falcon ;). -

The ‘waypoints symbols’ (if you mean the octagons) in the HUD are PDLTs.
Yes, its a Link-16 feature.
The info displayed below the TD box is not part of Link-16 though. Its also not part of the DTS either
However the TD box has info below it in M5 as well Amraam.

Not the octagons, but the small circles that seem to draw a curved line in the HUD

What time are these at? I dont see them.
EDIT: After the takeoff I can see a heap of 10 mr circles which appear to be stabilized against the background (ie ground stabilized except they are against the sky :S). PUP circles are 8 mr, but you only get the one per STPT I believe. AGM-65 seeker aimpoint circles are 10 mr and you can get 2 of those, but there is at least 3 circles displayed. Also if they were AGM-65 aimpoints they would not be stabilized against the sky.
Im stumped Some kind of steerpoint display?

Sure there are a few of them:

Don’t trust too much the HUD tape because is not sure that real like that. It record the data from the aircraft, film the things behind the hud, and add the data above it, it’s not what the pilot see.
Heading around -10° of pitch should be very difficult to see.
Look this real diagram : http://falcon4.wdfiles.com/local–files/avionics:hud/hud_schematic.jpg -

This pic actually confirms what I’ve been saying. Put the gun cross 5° downwards, the roll indicator would be some distance bellow the -10° line.
I realise that the HUD tape isn’t technically what the pilot sees, but I understand that the green HUD in the cockpit & the HUD in the tapes come from the same source (Correct me if I’m wrong). -
Okay I didn’t read on the ground sorry.
I just check right now because I never fly with this bank indicator.Yep, the difference is reaaaaallly small but that’s true. But you can’t do anything, it’s in the code and that clearly not important for the moment ;).
-
I understand that, that’s why I asked for help so I can do it myself ;), cause it’s just a minor thing that I wanted to do, didn’t realise when I started this thread that this was sort of hard coded thing :).

Yep. Most of the time, only 3D, texture and data can be edit. The rest going from the code (this is simplify as hell but not so far).
