Need help with delan clip and FaceTrackNoIR
-
Ok so i have my Delan clip with Face track NOIR, i installed CL eye test for the PS3 eye camera and on there i can clearly see the LEDs so the camera detects them. I then downloaded and installed face track noir along with the point tracker 1.1 update and update for supported games.csv. I double click face track noir on my desktop to open it…select point tracker 1.1 as tracker source, and free track 2.0 under game protocol. I then click start under the GO section but nothing appears in top left where i’m supposed to be able to see it track my LEDs but that section is just black with no readings for yaw, pitch or roll…please help! any help appreciated.

Its picking up my LEDs now but in game its a joke- my view is totally not where i’m looking and the one axis at times isnt detected so then my view goes back to the centre. When i look left, in game my view goes to the right, cant get a central look with my HUD square on, its either slightly below or to the left or right, it just seems all over the place.
-
in your case… you will have to invert your axis settings
-
Now seems even worse, you mean ticking the boxes to invert under global settings? the main problem is getting it center with my head- so when i’m looking straight at the screen, i’m looking squarely at my HUD with MFDs, and im getting problems with axis at times not getting picked up and when that happens, the view is on the HUD but slightly looking up and it doesnt pick up my movements. But also that as well, where i look right but in game it goes left.
-
When i’m looking straight at the screen, the camera doesnt pick up my top 2 LEDs, only the bottom.

For future reference, its bad etiquette to multipost on forums; edit your posts. It keeps the thread looking better.
Can you see 3 dots in the top left preview screen when you’re running it? I mean, FTnoIR puts a green cross over points it detects, but do you at least see the other 2 dots its not picking up? It sounds like you might need to adjust your sensitivity. Go into your tracker source settings, under the Camera tab. You’ll find a slider under the Point Extraction box, where it says Threshold. Adjust that slider for yourself so the camera always picks up the LEDs at the most extreme views. Moving the slider to the left makes the camera more sensitive to light, moving it to the right makes it less sensitive. Make sure you’ve got your clip dimensions set up properly. Oh, and you should disable Dynamic Pose Resolution in the General tab; FTNoIR was just about unusable until I disabled that.
Try messing with those suggestions and see if that doesn’t fix it.

For me those crosses are red. I’ve inverted everything and its looking in the right directions now, but the problem im having is mainly looking down, I only look a bit down and i lose the 2 top crosses, also getting the view straight and properly centered is difficult…also when i zoom in with my head, in the cockpit in game i zoom out, i believe thats the Z axis? to be honest the difficulty in getting it centered is down to my delan clip at a slight slant, it isnt parallel with my headphones. They’re not the best headphones in the world.
Sorry for the two thread postings, i thought after posting it in technical support that i should have posted it in head tracking.
Just tried taping my delan clip to my left headphone and its worse. The view of the HUD is awful, off to the right and slightly zoomed in.

Yep, sorry, my bad, the crosses are in fact red! I thought they were green cause Ive been messing with opentrack a bit and the crosses are green there!
I don’t actually own a delan clip - I built my own device which does the job as well as it needs to. But from looking at the pictures its roughly the same dimensions as what I’m using. Do the lights appear as big blobs or tiny dots in FTNoIR? I think what might be happening is, they are big blobs to the camera and when you look down the top 2 blobs merge into one big one, so the camera loses track.

Check your room lighting, Use a filter on the lense of the webcam if it seems a little bright to read your IR clip.

Did you get the camera from delan with the lens filter?

Yea thats it- the LEDs show as blobs and with crosses on them when FTNIR detects them, and yea i thought the same…when i look down those top 2 blobs merge so that explains that. What can i do to solve it?

Well i thought the delan clip comes with two light filters but when i received it they werent included, and when i asked the guy at Delan about it, he told me the day filter is built in…but in CL eye test, shouldnt my camera be totally black? coz for me it wasnt, at first it was showing me on the cam with my room behind. Not really bright and clear, its a fuzzy picture but i can see myself. I had to turn the gain right down to its lowest (in the options tab), and had to turn down exposure a fair bit, but cant turn it down too much as the LED lights are no longer visible.

Ok… when you are testing the cam out in CL EYE TEST…it should be blacken with only the 3 IR dots appearing. if you can see yourself, the room lighting is too bright. It is good that you adjusted the gain and exposure as you did… try physically centering the camera on top of the monitor and pointing at the same level of your head position. In FTNoIR in the Tracker Source Setting make sure that in the General section that the Dynamic Pose Resolution is unchecked. Also if you may have to set your Camera Orientation in the Camera section.

I have the cam centered on the monitor looking straight at it but in FTNIR it shows as my head looking up. Tried adjusting pitch/roll settings in tracker source, doesnt seem to do anything.
I even took the cam off my monitor, held up my LED lights so they were almost right in front of each other, directly facing each other and STILL cant get them straight and lined up center.
At times when turning keep losing a cross, its just not working and immensely frustrating.
-
The reason for losing the crosses must be the lack of light from my LEDs due to the gain set to the lowest it can be, my cam doesnt have a built in light filter otherwise it would be dark and would only pick up my LEDs. and i received none in the parcel so i’m disappointed with that guy at Delan. For those of you using the Delan clip- are your LED lights showing pretty much in a straight line? as mine are a bit slanted.
I noticed looking at the manual for Delan Engineering i can see what it should look like on the camera, with the video capture filter settings to the right of it. The camera is totally dark except the the LED lights and the gain and exposure settings are set quite high, i’m having to set my gain to the lowest and can still see light in my room, and i can see my own head.

In the FTNoIR Options menu… under the Keyboard and Mouse selection, gives you a way to center and game zero your setup through key setting or by the mouse buttons… default is HOME key for the keyboard/ I have it set to my mouse center button also which seems to work well in your situation of misalignment.
-
cns, yes your gain needs to be around centre, mines just less than that. The filter is an optional extra from delan, if you didn’t specify it then he would have just shipped the unmodded ps3 eye cam. I think it was an extra few euros for the filter option.

How do you have your camera set is it facing straight at your head? is your Delan clip straight, like parallel with your headphones? coz mine is a bit slanted, does that matter? what other settings have you adjusted in CL eye test and in FTNIR?

Ahh, i’ll check that out cheers

The cam is facing straight at me yes, i think mine is slightly offset on my headphones too, one issue i did have is that when i looked up, the bottom led would conflict with the middle one and the tracking would freeze, changing the curve values helped eliminate that issue, as im not physically moving my head as much now. I dont think the leds need to be straight. CL eye test is i think gain, slightly below half, and the others stepped up in a diagonal towards the bottom right corner, will have to check it again & see if i can post a screen shot…
