Keystrokes not making any sense..
-
When I’m in the setup portion of the game, its says “D” is for dogfight mode… but in the keyfile pdf it says SimSelectSRM Override… When I press it, my hud changes and my eegs shows up for my gun… I’m able to shoot down a plane easily enough but can’t get a sidewinder to lock… or even a hud display that says SRM to indicated the sidewinder is ready or whatever.
When I open the Keystrokes Keymap.pdf file, none of the commands seem to do anything that they’re supposed to… NVG works, ESC gets me out of the game… P works to pause it… X will drop chaff… and I did fire a missile once by pressing the space bar… but that’s about it… I can’t seem to get the hud to show me G forces or give me a compass… Oh ya… “A” for autopilot seemed to work too…
I also tried to “LOAD” the keyfile just to make sure I had the right one… my choices were BMS something and Keystrokes and I picked keystrokes… but nothing changed.
Is there a way to print out the list that’s in the games controller setup menu for reference? When I try to print the KEYSTROKES pdf file, there’s so much junk that the print becomes so small on the page that I can’t read it.
This is what’s bugging me… My controls are not working the way they’re supposed to. Never yet have I even seen a medium range missile or long range missile… about the only thing I can do is use the gun.
Oh, and another thing… My throttle in my left hand intermittently stops working for five seconds or so at a time. I have to move it all the way forward, then all the way back, and then forward again to get it to start working… then it will be fine… so long as I don’t do anything… then, for no apparent reason, I have to rinse and repeat to get it to work.
I wonder if all these problems could be related to my video card… Even with all the cool graphics turned off and/or lowered to their lowest settings, I’m only getting about 10 frames per second.

Familiarize yourself with the various options for the AIM-9 on the SMS page. I prefer BORE and BP for bypass. TD is really screwy. If you want the missile to be pointed via radar then use SLAV instead of BORE. Settings are per individual missile. When you want to have the AIM-9 track autonomously press the uncage button. The small diamond will become big and it is autonomously tracking. Verify a large diamond uncaged track before shooting.
KeyStrokes Keymap.pdf is a document pertaining to keystrokes.key keyfile. If you are not using that key file it will not be accurate. I believe BMS.key is the most commonly used default. I suggest making a Murphy.key file and customizing it to what makes sense to you. The default two are very busy with IMHO too many bindings that I will never use. I consider the default 2 keyfiles to be like the dictionary, good reference not to scribble on. The default key files are mostly rubbish and so the PDF about them is useless. The keyfile you want is Murphy.key, the one you create for yourself.
MRM is AIM-7/AIM-120, it’s the override mode similar to dogfight but designed for BVR combat. There’s no such thing as LRM in the F-16.
Throttle not working is very odd. I wouldn’t think they are video card related. Perhaps bad power supplied with USB hub?

you should stop trying to use your keyboard and learn your cockpit.
for instance A will engage your autopilot….right… but… no.
autopilot has 2x3 positions switch in order ton control separatly roll and pitch… the keyboard does not command those switches
so using keyboard will limiti you a lot in the learning curve.
BMS is designed to be like real so learn your cockpit and use it like the real
keystroke is mainly for sim stuff (pause or take screen shoy or camera) and for cockpit builders

What is the name of your throttle. Is it moving properly in Setup page?

I have an older x36F / x35T Saitek… Both seem to move smoothly in the setup page… buttons seem to work fine.

Looks like I’m going to have to upgrade my computer since my mouse cursor movements are very erratic during game play… Not enough processing power for this game.

……Never yet have I even seen a medium range missile or long range missile… about the only thing I can do is use the gun. …As I mentioned in one of your other threads ‘dogfight’ mode by it’s game name IS Short Range Missile Override mode. You can cancel the override, usually, with “C”. You can access radar guided missile (AIM-7 or AIM-120) while in SRM using the Missile Step/NWS function. OR you can select MRM (Medium Range Missile) override mode or AA mode. Again, in both, stepping station and/or weapons with Missile Step.
Best thing to do, imho, is familiarize your self with the F-16 HOTAS (in the BMS dash 1, ~pages 26 and 51) and the associated game callback commands and then make a reasonable approximation on your HOTAS. Many of the built in HOTAS commands are multi-functional and will remove your need for and difficulty with keyboard commands.
In the dash 1, you can also re-familiarize yourself with the HUD symbology, some of which will change by Master Mode. Doing so you will find that current G and max G since reset are displayed on the HUD in most (?all) master modes.

AA mode is split into AAM and GUN. Depending on the class of missile selected AAM will read “SRM” or “MRM” on the HUD. Missile Override mode is not AAM, it’s MSL but again shows “SRM” or “MRM” on the HUD. The difference between AAM and MSL is really small.
Dogfight override is not SRM, despite the title of the callback which is admittedly a little confusing. Dogfight is dogfight which is only accessible via the override switch position and is a combination display of SRM and GUN.
In any case the gun can be fired almost any time (depending on which of the two gun-shooting callbacks you use) but the symbology is available either through dogfight override or AA maser mode and changed to GUN. Heat missiles are fired through AAM or MSL or DGFT meaning either of the two overrides or by selecting them in AA master mode. Radar missiles are the same as heat missiles in that AAM, MSL, or DGFT can be used.

How are you getting the x36 to show up I have a couple of them and not had a computer with a gameport connection in about 13 years. I know that someone said that they configured an aduinio for usb, but not sure what software they are using to configure the HOTAS with.

Mine has both gameport and/or USB connection. I just plugged the USB in and Win 8.1 pro did the rest… The only way to make it easier is if it plugged itself in! LOL
Maybe mine is newer or something? Its about 12 years old or so…
