Enemy airbase taken over resulting in friendly fire
-
I’ve just flown a SEAD Strike.
When looking at the flightplan I saw that there was a red forces runway on the way out to my target so I decided I’d mark it and drop some BLU107s on it as I flew past. Probably a bad idea as there was a lot of MiG29s about which eventually shot me down. Anyway I managed to drop 3 bombs on the runway but then discovered (after the mission) that I’d been court martialled for friendly fire (3 counts).
The runway must’ve been taken over by blue forces between mission planning and me getting to the target.
Is there any way to tell if the runway is friendly once in the air?

Not through intelligence, i.e. AWACS.
But you could lock it up and declare it but you would probably just get a bogey call, which doesn’t determine anything.
The only way you might be able to know is to lock it up and tell your wingie to attack, if he says negative, then that’s an indication its friendly. This is dependent on the fact that he would be carrying weapons to attack an airbase.
Not really any fool proof way.

Thanks! Think I’ll stick to hitting bases deeper into enemy territory!

As I understand it, in BMS when you declare ground targets bogey means it is hostile. Yep, I understand the definition of bogey, this is just a unique “game-ism” for falcon.

It depend. If it’s a preplanned target, AWACS will contact you inflight to advice you “target captured, RTB”.
Listen very well the radio. But only for a preplanned target of course. -
If you review the mission results it will tell you exactly which objects you destroyed or damaged.

Did you accomplish your original mission objective, i.e. The SEAD Strike? I think this shows a perfect example of why Targets of Opportunity are sometimes best avoided.

Never saw a SEAD strike loaded with BLU-107. You shold carry HARMs instead.
-
I have never heard that call. AWACS will guide you to exactly the pre planned target if it’s there and AAA units are usually moving to the front as reinforcement for airbases and army bases etc. if they are not already there protecting the target. In the mission brief it will say K-19 or S60. I do see friendly aircraft at times flying really low close to red airbases who are often protected by a HQ unit with SA9 or SA13 and are downed quickly and they are also downed from debris flying too close to the red runways that are being hit.

Nope, was shot down en route after hitting the airbase.

I changed my loadout to add them after seeing that I could hit the airbase en route to the primary target. I was number 2 or 4 in the package so let the AI carry the HARMs (I had 1 HARM myself and 3 BLU107 where the other HARM was originally)

Was 3 hits on the runway.

If the system don’t know that’s you target, he can’t give you update on the situation of course ;). It was not your primary target?
