Multiplayer problem I can not connect but other people can connect on friend's server
-
Hi folks!
The following problem occurs. A friend of me is hosting a multiplayer server, another friend can connect on it without any problems.
But when I trying to connect it says “fails to connect to multiplayer server”.The strange thing is that it worked like a charm until last week and then the above described problem occurs.
my firewall is obviously not active!
I search around on the BMS forum but I didn’t find any solution for this.
So i hope someone can helps me out. Thanks in advance
greets
Stephen

My first guess: is the theater you’ve selected the same as the one that is hosted?
-
Yups that’s something we also cheched and we are using the same theater.

To double check, have your other friend host and see if you can connect with him.
-
Yup been there done that. But without succes :(.

By chance, did you check to see if your ports are still open? I had a friend who’s ports would change on him quite a bit.
-
Check if your internal IPv4 address is changed

Best Port Tester there is (for free …. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/simple_port_tester.html

I’m not hosting. A friend of me is hosting and his ports are open because a friend of ours can connect without any problems. So port opening checking is a bit unneccesary since I’m trying to connect to a server.

I’m not sure if this is actually the case. I read somewhere that BMS uses some clever peer-to-peer protocol in order to “round-trip” data among the clients, so opening your ports can’t hurt and also won’t pose a security risk if there’s nothing listening on them.
Cheers, Uwe

Just only suggesting based on my experience. Also checking your IPv4 is good to do as suggested by Trueno. Ports and IPv4 do change without your knowledge.
Edit: Response is for Stephen. Selected wrong post reply…sorry.
