Hawks (MIM-23 Hawk) and my wingman saved my ever livin’ arse!!!
I was completing a DEAD mission and took out 2 SA-2 sites. On egress my wingman and I were jumped by 4 Mig29’s. The Hawks took 2 of them out while my wingman was trying to engage. I actually saw a smoke trail from one of the missiles that a Hawk had fired and followed the trail as it hit one of the Mig29’s - I had to pick my jaw off the floor. I turned back towards the two that were left, but my warning lights/sounds were chirping and beeping like mad. I then went evasive while my wingman took out the 1 of the 2 left. I evaded 2 AA missiles in the process, but the 4th Mig29 took out my wingman. I got the heck out of dodge after that. When I landed I felt a huge sigh of relief then the emotion set in that I lost my AI wingman in the process. One of the best flight sim experiences I have had in a long time.
Intense is an understatement!

Were they definitely Su-29s and not MiG-28s?

Read 29’s on the RWR.

Read 29’s on the RWR.
If the RWR shows “29”, it’s a MiG-29 or Su-27/30/33 (which all use a similar radar system).
-
Yeah - the MiG-29, Su-27 et al all use the same radar… and thus, all emit the same signal as far as the RWR can distinguish.

Alright, you saw them, right?
Did their horizontal stabs stick out past the burner nozzles, and did they have a long spike sticking out between the engines?
The MiG-29 has stabs which are very swept and extend aft of the nozzles, and while the Su-27 doesnt have that, it has a central spike of the aircraft which extends past the nozzles inbetween the engines. The Su-27 is also quite a bit larger.

I was close enough to tell visually the one I saw was not an F-15 - no other details. I was too freaked out trying to think of my next strategy noticing a smoke trail coming up from the ground - starting to freak then WHAM! he was hit by one of the Hawk’s!

Man those Su-29s!..…don’t try to out turn them!
