Radio volume knobs with joystick controller
-
Hey guys,
When I use rotaries with a joystick controller, I know that the knobs don’t move in a 3D cockpit.
But I can’t turn on the radio when I move COMM1 or COMM2. First I have to turn it with the mouse and then I can use COMM1 to control the volume.
How can I manage it without using the mouse? How does other pit builder manage it? -
When bound to axes, avionics knobs (HUD brightness, COM volume, etc.) require that they be turned on via a digital command before they can be increased. For example:
SimHUDPower 116 0 0x9C 3 0 0 1 "ICP: SYM Wheel - HUD Power - Toggle" SimHUDOn 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 "ICP: SYM Wheel - HUD Power - On" SimHUDOff 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 "ICP: SYM Wheel - HUD Power - OFF"
-
argh…. thank you!
So I have to use a pot like one on a radio which has a “klick” when you turn it on ? For example…uaaah… who programmed something like that???
-
yes exactly
and it’s programmed like that because it is like that in the real jet -
So, the knob vor COMM1 for example is adjust in SETUP->CONTROLLER->ADVANCE->etc.
and the function ON/OFF is a toggle command or a switch which has to be configured ….where? -
on a button…
with the keystroke or the mouse. It’s intended to be used with a pot having a ON/OFF button at the begin of its course. The analogue values are declared in setup/controller/Advanced as you said. And the buttons has to be programmed with any keyboard emulator you might use.
If you try to enable it on a HOTAS axis for instance, then you need to program that ON/OFF separatelyIt’s mostly a feature for pit builders.

Ah ok, thanks…
So it’s necessary to use a pot with the “klick”
I think I steal me a F16, then I have no problems with tinker. -
ähm… for the on/off function, either I need two buttons for on and off or can I use a toggle switch instead of using a pot with the “klick”?
How did you guys solve the problem? Did you use a keyboard controller or a joystick controller for that? -
With Saitek’s programming for x55 you can put a toggle key-press on a small range on the knob, then use the knob’s axis for the whole range. I’m sure other sticks’ programming allow for such tweak.

Hey all,
can I combine a keystroke to several functions?
For example, if my keystroke “X” toggles the SimComm1Power, can I also toggle the SimComm2Power with it?
So I would be able to activate all volume knobs with a poweron/off function, when I turn the UHF radio knob to MAIN or BOTH.
It would prevent extra switches for the volume knobs. -
I think the only chance is to set “press” to a callback and then "release to a different one. Then you get two callbacks for a single down/up keystroke cycle. But that’s the best I can think of. With the X-55 you could macro as many strokes as you like using the programming software.

Well okay…
but I could use the OFF/SQL/GD knob as a sequence switch in order to set the COMM1 and COMM2 on and off!
