Shimmering on coastal areas with ATI
-
Searched and haven’t found any similar instances. Any coastal area/river bank, essentially any land near a body of water will shimmer terribly beyond a ~2km radius of my jet. Running ATI HD7850. Not sure what other data is needed as this is the first time I have ever encountered shimmering and I really know nothing about it.

Switch off Anisotropic Filtering in SETUP > GRAPHICS > ADVANCED and force on (up to 8x) in CCC (Catalyst Control Center).
Example of settings to use in this post: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23470-ATI-Users-please-post-your-settings-for-4-33&p=338318&viewfull=1#post338318

Would Multisampling be left to BMS or CCC in this case?
-
In the example of my settings it’s switched off in BMS and forced on in CCC. That seems to give me the best results with my AMD card.
-
Trying your settings it does get rid of the shimmering, but my textures are low quality and AA seems to be nonexistent.
-
Did you create specific application profiles in CCC for Falcon BMS.exe in either \Bin\x64\ or \Bin\x86 (or both if you fly both versions)?
It sounds like you disabled anisotropic in BMS but haven’t got a working CCC application profile.
Could you upload a screenshot of your CCC 3D Application Settings?
-
Well there’s my problem. I made a CCC profile on the wrong .exe. Working fine now.

Incidentally I did add this advice to the BMS Manual. You’ll find it in the Configuration chapter, on p36:
Anisotropic Filtering
This enables Anisotropic texture filtering. This is another BMS UI on/off setting which you may find it is
better to override in your graphics card control panel, where you will have more customisation options
available. Newer AMD cards especially benefit from this as leaving the BMS AF setting selected can
result in a moiré effect near coastlines. Forcing AF on (up to 8x) in CCC resolves this issue. Now you’ve got that working it might be worth looking to see if there are any other tips that might improve your experience.
