5.1 surround sound weirdness
-
Im just reinstalling and setting up my rig once again and for the first time I get to experience BMS in 5.1 surround!
But im having some initial issues I cant seem to find answers to.
I get weird volumes and positioning of the audio. Ive tried fiddling with the audio options in the menu as well as setting up my system but cant get it working properly.First it seems to have really imbalanced volumes. Engine sound is extremely low, as is almost all sounds from exterior such as firing the cannon, extracting/retracting landing gears, chaff flare, rockets etc.
And while some audio seem to originate from the correct channels (RWR from center speaker) but the engine, which I would expect from the rear speakers, comes out the front left/right.Is there issues with BMS and 5.1 surround or am I missing something?
THe system works great and as intended in other games and applications so the system is at least correctly connected and set up.
Thanks

That volume balance is how you hear in real life, earplugs and helmet. By engine sound do you mean the cockpit buzz? I keep hearing that you hear no engine from the cockpit in real life.

Hi, I wrote about this regarding inner and outside cockpit sounds. In 5.1, center way is internal sounds, lateral are external sounds (stereo) and back channels have no sound.
That’s bad for 5.1 but perfect for having internal sounds in headset and external in speakersWatch out! I’m talking about 3.5mm jack connectors 5.1 systems.
Nothing to do with USB or optical ones.
Cheers! -

Ah. Yes especially the engine sounds are much lower then in normal stereo/headphone and while I do get some exterior sound (other aircrafts) in the rear speakers, I get none of my own sound from them
I guess it might be realistic in a sense, I wouldnt know since Ive never sat in a real fighter, but from watching recordings on youtube and the like it sure seem to be some engine sound/buzz inside the cockpit as well.

Cheers!Aha, yeah I can see this might be a useful setup, I might have to try it out.
But overall, BMS does seem to support 5.1 as I do get external sounds from other aircraft in my rear speakers…I think…Have to go do some tests… -

This is why you can trust BMS team.

Haha that is fantastic!
This does make me feel a bit better but this would mean that the game, in regular stereo, have way WAY too high engine sounds.
I mean, i can hardly hear the engine spool up at the ramp. And the fact that I have the engine sounds playing from the front speakers is something that just doesnt feel right but mrwell mentioned that there might be some issue there.

The point is that I am not sure BMS is compatible with 5.1 (?) … maybe you should do extensive search on the forum as I know that it might be some issues with 5.1 or 7.1 …
