A question about the lod-distances 4.33
-
I can confirm what Jaws said, I noticed a considerable loss of vision

Thank you for the answer. I have smart scaling on ofc.
Have you tried with smart scaling off? At what point do you see it then?
So when do lod 4,3,2,1, and especially 0 = full model= all polygons, load in?
LodEditor numbers LOD’s from 1 to n, but I numbered them according to how you requested 0 to n.
5 - 36,000’ (Note, this is a “point” primitive and should display at 1 pixel width)
4 - 25,000’
3 - 3,000’
2 - 500’
1- 150’
0- 50’If you have the time and LodEditor experience. Change the distance on LOD 4 (LOD 5 using LE numbering) to 36,000 and see how soon you tally.

Thank you very much for that.
I can pretty much tell right away that lod 3,2,1 is not effecting the ability to “tally” it is most definitly the distance were you get lod 4. I am semiconfident in using the editor so I will, test what you adressed when I get to the computer.

Älg I´v done some testing. I conclude that it is infact when you change LOD 4 you can see any difference. Took awhile to figure out hoiw toi actually see the different lods in the LE… click from edit to view hehe. Lod 4(LE) Loads at 3000feet and is the object that has the potential for “tallybility”. Lod 5 (Le) is a streamlined lowpoly as you showed in your post.
Its crystal clear that to be able to spot a F16 we need to up the contrast of the lod5, give it a darker colour or whatever u use to give it some contrast against the foggy skies, that woudnt impact fps at all if I´m correct, or up the distance of lod 4 to atleast 2 miles. 2 miles is what different sources that I´v been trying to collect says is absolutly visible for nosepos and bankangles, etc.
Oh! Do you Also know if the loadout is represented in lod 5 and 4 as I noticed an almost zero surface on the f16 comin in head on?Thank you again for your answers and I wish you Clears skies
If I were able to and it had zero impact on the performance I would gladly do it myself.
LOD 5 distance 25.000feet
LOD 4 distance 3000feet

Hi Jasajas, are you saying “you can’t see any difference” or “you can see a difference?”
If it is “you can,” at what distance did you set LOD 4 to be able to tally (without smart scaling).

I will have to check, but I believe the slots for loadouts are available on the LOD’s 1 to 4.

What i meant was that if you change lod 5 to 36k feet from 25 I could not make out a difference. Probobly because of the very low contrast and actual surface of the object. When I tried with lod 4 ( textured f16) I were able to spot it aprox where I set it to load. I tried 30k, 25 and last about 13k feet (about 2 miles) and I had tally at the set distances.
Cheers!

Sorry to keep asking questions, but I appreciate your taking the time to work this out.
1. At what point (in feet) were you no longer able to see LOD 4 without smart scaling on?
2. Can you try this LOD for LOD 5. It has a darker color and a reflective canopy. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109291067/LOD5.lodAnd I checked and yes, LOD4 does have loaded weapons. I think this is what makes LOD4 and above more visible.

Hi again!
You do not have to say sorry to me Mr. I am gonna do all the tests again and try to be very precise. You will have your answers tomorrow. I will definitly try to implement that lod and test it. Thank you for asking the questions so I hopefully can give you the correct answers.
Good then! Lod 4 is loaded. Thank you!
Hasta luego!

Heureka!!
Found a very valuable source to the matter:
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0005594
A couple of numbers that really pops out is: DC3 at collisioncourse measured at 0, 45 and 90 d angleoff was DETECTED at an average between 5.5 to 8.7 km (aprox 20.000feet) and if knowing the area and angle of the incoming it was SPOTTED 17.3 to 23 km (aprox 60.000 feet). A dc3 is not a F16 but anyway. The F16 is one of the testobject in the sourse though.
Specific questions:
“1. At what point (in feet) were you no longer able to see LOD 4 WITHOUT smart scaling on?”
Answer: All togheter all Lods 18300ft (3miles). 70 fov, 1920/1080 res. I Cant make out the difference between the two.“2. Can you try this LOD for LOD 5. It has a darker color and a reflective canopy. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109291067/LOD5.lod”
Answer: Lod 5 seems to be a little easier to spot. Its very hard to test as the objects are spotted differently depending on aspect, bank and vertical displacement ofc.I will pm you if I may with additional information that I gain from testing, as I feel its beginning to be on that level.
Thanks!

Thankyou Jaz and Pumpyhead; The lod’s in update 1 for 4.33, look much improved!
