Warthog Throttle Service
-
OK I thought it was time to do a service on the Hog Stick and Throttle, My good friend Sobe had already sent Me a new O ring for the Stick but having just moved house I had no grease with me (all that stuff is at my sons place).
OK lets strip the throttle down, clean out all that tobacco and green stuff that fell in over the years. Throttle brake/friction has always been doggy and I was noticing a unreasonable amount of slop in the off axis movement of the leaver grips (the thing you put your hand on, no not that!, the throttle bit where all the switches are)
Drop the two base plates off, OK not to smokable maternal, but what is all this black crumbs/dust and bits of black plastic ???
Its the throttle brake totally chewed out, OMG its been designed by an engineering student who failed every module He signed up for.
Didn’t have a camera handy but I will take some pics and post them latter for the benefit of others. Have to run now but there is more to come!

This is timely, mine has had a very faint “grind” feeling at some points in the movement. Was just going to blow it out but if it’s full of grit that maybe unwise.

Still waiting to hear back from TM Support :munch:
In the mean time…… Each axis of the twin throttle is dependent on “O” rings as a bearing, not what I expected to see.
All 4 of these showed wear/compression in the direction of force from the brake pressure and weight of “Hand on throttle” Two were broken. In one spot it was plastic to plastic.Did a quick measure and searched for replacements, local Auto parts had some that might have been useful, $0.50 each.
Found a Online supplier ( http://au.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=infozone ) that had a good selection and next day delivery. ordered a bag of Nitrile Rubber O rings as apposed to the softer Silicone. 7.6x12.4mm.
Finished cleaning the black sooty grease/rubber of everything. As it turned out they were just too “thick”. Remeasured the clean parts. the Sensor end of the axial was 9.1x11.2mm while the inside end was 8x10.44mm. Back online and ordered a bag of 7.93x11.11mm, they turned up the next day and were a perfect replacement, providing a snug fit on the axis and needing just a hair of compression by the two halves of the assembly.
Still haven’t taken any photos sorry, but I do intend to strip it down again for a regrease ( I was very frugal ) and inspect my alternative break pad solution.
I was very impressed with the next day delivery of the “O” rings (700 miles)
The internal structure of the throttle is simple enough for most to successfully dissemble/reassemble, the break assembly applies pressure to the axis however, and always remember to turn the screws backwards until you “feel” it drop into the existing thread before nipping them up. Don’t cut a new thread with the self taping screws !!! And they don’t need to be tight only snug.
Sobe I’ll post some “O” rings over to you. There were 50 in the bag I have. Now 46, I can spare a few.

Shadow, what about those pictures the inside of your Warthog? and what type of grease are you going to use? Did thrustmaster suggest any type?
