That is subjective. I am an AMD guy. The R9 290x is now in that price range and is comparably the same as to the GTX 960. I have found the R9 290x to be less expensive than the GTX 745 when I look at prices.
960 is much cheaper than R9 290X , or what you mean ?

I did a look into prices for all 3 cards. The R9 290x is approx. $320. The GTX 960 is approx. $180, but not as fast and has less RAM. The GTX 745 is approx. $90. Your right. I ment to say the R9 290 is approx $220 or on par with the GTX 960. Seems that Nvidia is selling there cards cheaper now. Used to be the other way around. Hell, I might change up for a pair of Nvidia cards now!

I will wait next year, new tech coming Q1 2016 full dx12 support etc

Then what AMD CPU would you recommend?
4.2 Quad for around $90. It is what I have been running. No need to overclock. Runs FBMS just fine with everything turned up, max trees, ect. The black edition is designed for overclocking, but I doubt you would need to. As for the GFX card, it does seem that Nvidia has great cards for less than AMD GFX cards. So I would go with a GTX 960 @ approx. $180. That combo is under $300. Very good, but as the holidays get closer, so the prices go down.

SoBad Noooooooo.
As much as I have loved my AMD CPUs over the last 10 years. An i5 4690k (cheaper i54590) or the DDR4 version i5 6600k (cheaper i5 6500) is a must.
And as others have stated GTX 745 is a through away. Minimum R9 380 / GTX 960. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2980028/components-graphics/amd-radeon-r9-380-review-the-best-200-graphics-card-you-can-buy-for-1080p-gaming.html?page=2
Yes you will need to open the wallet, spend wisely

AMD is slow and old tech, even 4+ghz , they are still sooo slow when compared to any Intel K series cupu runing at same speed.
I hope that AMD will get faster CPU tech out , no competition is not good for consumers

For FBMS, my quad 4.2 has held up quite well. Yes, Intel CPU’s are faster but if your looking at bang for the buck, I would suggest the AMD 4.2. No problems running FBMS with my set up. No need to change out CPU (at least not yet).

jhook…you should look into the R9 380 4gb if you like AMD…good card and much less power needed compared to the 290…just make sure when you get a power supply it is at least 750 w…and has a 6 pin and a 8 pin for power. They are around 200.00 now and some are cheaper…this will be my next choice when I build in Jan or Feb…Happy Thanksgiving all in keeping with the situation.

Actually looking at the R9 390x. Wow, that is a beast. Yeah, the R9 380 is less than $200 and seems to be better than even the GTX 960. As for a power supply?, I run “mini nuclear reactor” sir.
