Do you use Display Radio Subtitles ?

Mebbe once Shadow gets off the T-45s and starts actually doing it, Ill take his word over a 6 hour recording of lots of other folks actually doing it
-
I don’t like using them myself (immersion killer) but i especially hate it when guys i’m flying with are using them and they stomp all over the AWACS comms after a request because they’ve seen the answer before i’ve heard it. Shut up already!!
Opps……:)

What am I to get off ? Are you taking the Shadow’s name in vain?
So you actually listened to 6 hours of recorded radio chat. Impressive.

Says the one not actually doing it… [emoji41]

Off, as I find the response unrealistically fast and the scrolling text ruins video footage.
Like others have said I throw them in the same bucket as labels.
During times of high activity, mil radio freqs can be extremely busy. This is why a lot is done via SOP/hand signals.

Off, I can live with the delays. I don’t use a pilot voice either, so that compensates a little bit. Also, in 4.33 I hardly ever listen to UHF13 as it is too cluttered with the new AWACS calls, until later on in the campaign.

Thanks for these answers all.
At that point, Radio subtitles is on for 9 of us (3 of them only in SP), off for 9 (immersion killer).I was used to turn this option ON. I think it is a little exagerate to compare this option with labels.
But I admit that subtitles are really more comfortable as it is a reminder on the screen during 10s and so you can manage priorities with your choice, don’t listen to the call and just read it a few second later …
Not very realistic for sure.maybe more points of view ?

I use them due to my tone deafness. Some sounds tend to muffle others for me. In RL I would have trouble passing a pilots physical due to the limitations of my hearing. I couldn’t even get in the military back in 1990 because of my hearing. I use them to watch TV also…shrug.
As an added bonus, I get to kill Harlequins’ immersion at times! :wfish:

plus I think Harley uses the “own pilot voice” and that might delay the response more

I don’t use them anymore. They are great for learning and training the ear, especially in less dense environments where UHF 13 is ‘immersively cluttered’. Remember the B-course graduation training mission in 4.32? It was perfect in this respect - a must-fly for any newbie pilot I think. Shame that it’s not included in 4.33.
Anyway, now I consider them as immersion killers as well. And they’re ruining the screenshots …

I don’t use them either because I dont’ like to have the text on the screen. After some time, you get used to having always the same messages over the radio so it’s fine, unlike real life. Radio chatter can be extermely annoying and it seems some people really enjoy talking over the radio. Add to this that the speakers are not always native English speakers and you can have some pretty messy situations, even (or especially) during real warfare.

I use them and they don’t bother me. I guess this is mainly because I use three monitors to display BMS and the subtitles are on the extreme left (left side of my left monitor) so they are mostly “out of sight” but I can still turn my head and see/read them if I needed to. Best of both worlds.
-
I also leave them off and turn off the pilot voice too. Really like the way sometimes you have to wait for your answer - feels immersive to me regardless of whether realistic or not.

Now i’m the bad guy. I’ll be sure to keep this in mind and raise my voice in the future (i.e. i’m going to yell at you… always). Get some hearing aids you old bastard!!

I turn off pilot voice too because I am used to use a software for pilot input (Shoot previously, then VAC and finally LMC from LIVROT) … And both in SP or MP
-
I use them. In real life I can read back all or a portion of the transmission for clarification. And the guy replying will clarify. If I speak slowly, he/she will respond with more inflection understanding the I am having difficulty clearly receiving the instruction. In other words there is a whole world of nuance in RL communication that is totally missing from a game. So, to make up for some of that, I use subtitles.

I find it extremely helpful.

I use them. AI in games (in general, not only BMS or flight sims) can execute some tactics, predict moves, do advanced manoeuvres and many other activities, but when it comes to simple “human-human” interactions, they’re dumb. You won’t be able to ask them to say again only a portion of last message, they’ll say it whole, again at the same speed, with the same tone. In such case, I consider having subtitles ON not as an immersion killer, but rather just another non-obstructive layer between me and the virtual world. It’s also helpful when flying MP.
As for the “real pilots don’t have subtitles” reasoning, well, I’m not a pilot. I’m sitting in my comfy chair. When I crash, I just hit a button and fly again, if I bail out, i just lose mission instead of possibility of ending pilot’s career due to bailout-induced injuries (spine, mostly). When I fight those bad guys over North Korea, my family just rolls eyes at my head-tracking cap, rather than watch TV reports of actual battle in remote country. Just my two cents.

Reminds me of the joke “Who called the Cook a bastard, who called the bastard a cook” ?
I’ll stick up for schnidr,“Old Bastard”, He’s not “old”.
