AAR Question
-
I fly the AAR Training mission according to the BMS Training manual.
But I can fly for minutes behind the tanker and he doesn´t give me a clearance to refuel. What is wrong ???

Have you asked for a refuel? When within 10 miles, you ask for a refuel with the tanker menu ‘Y’.
The boomer should clear you to precontact, so you fly to that position (behind and below, put the boom on the gun cross and fly in closer to it slowly until you get clearance to contact).
When you get cleared to contact, you fly to the contact position, which is further forwards of precontact and about the same height. You get light signals after the cleared to contact call, and when the lights go out, stay in that position and wait to get plugged by the boomer. After you get plugged, you will hear ‘contact’ and see the director lights come on again. -
Yes I did.
And he cleared me for precontact position.
But not for refueling -

-
Yes, door was open.
Everything according to the manual. -
Have you taken a look at any of the YouTube videos pertaining to refueling? It sounds like you are not in the proper position for clearance. I personally have to move forward and backwards until I hit the sweet spot.

But not for refuelingYou need to stabilise in the correct precontact position, then. Put the boom on the gun cross, fly behind it stably. Once you are stable in the position (this should be very quick, a second maybe) you will get cleared to contact and get lights.

Sounds like your sitting to far back. A good visual reference for learning is the gun cross, fly right up to the boom(as if you want to connect to it) and keep the cross on the boom, you’ll get your clearance about 15 feet shy.
