Petition to remove submarines from the game, especially in a battlegroup
-
It’s just disgusting to see all those surfaced submarines marauding the coasts and escorting carrier battlegroups. Submarines are doing nothing in the game. There is no undersea element in this game. Why don’t we just remove them. It won’t hurt anything.

Sounds like a good idra

Why don’t you remove them from the battle group? Use the tools available such as Mission Commander.

It’s posts like this that made me sell up. Get a life, for crying out loud!

just sink them; poof gone!

SMH…

All,
I believe there is an undersea element to the sim, just not implemented as the outer space element is not implemented, so I have been told. Pardon me if I err.

A …. petition? Are you serious?
Remove it yourself if you don’t like it.

CORRECT should be out in 3-4 weeks.

This thread would have come across a little better by just suggesting that surfaced subs in the carrier group isn’t realistic. And to that I would agree that it doesn’t seem likely that modern subs make a habit of sunning themselves next to the carrier. I think some of the replies are a little harsh though. I mean if a VHF antena is mislocated there will be 20 posts suggesting that it be moved 5 inches forward and 2 to the left. The OP is offering that a feature of the game is equally visually jarring.

My humble opinion is that, if surfaced subs are useless (we aren’t in WWII age any more), implementing them in the sim would be well worth, because this matter could help in increasing the possibilities of creating interesting and more challenging missions. This told not from the tactics point of view, of course. And these are just my own two cents (in Euros).
Best regards,

I hope u are a troll or u were drunk… (I don’t judge I was last night, but I was enought lucid not to post a bullshit) By the way, Happy new year folks…

What’s the point in removing them?
Maybe it doesn’t hurt some if they are removed. Just as it won’t hurt YOU if they remain in BMS.
Go fly DCS, enough empty aseptic spaces there ….

Yep, much as I like the visuals with DCSW 2, the game play just ain’t there.
FBMS continues to be the superior sim, only DCS fan bois and those who have never seen BMS disagree.

Really, what did the OP do to deserve this shitstorm?
Surfaced submarines acompaning a carrier group look silly.
It would be good to remove them. True not the highest priority but hey. -
Again, you can do it yourself.
What I don’t like, is the concept of “petition”. Common, what’s the point? You think you can force us to do something if 20 guys signed up the topic? Sorry but sometimes I loose faith…. -
Petition is just too strong a word. If he had said something more along the lines of “I’ve noticed X. My suggestion is Y. Who agrees?”, he would’ve asked exactly the same thing, but I’m fairly certain that more responses would’ve been a bit like “Actually, you have a point. We can look into this.”
And yes, you can do it yourself, but that requires you to do it for every CBG you add. With flyable F18’s, that’s more often than in 4.32, I presume, so it can probably become a bit tedious after a while. Hence his request to have it removed from BMS all-together, which according to him would be better for realism’s sake (which I actually agree with, but those are just my €0.02).

The things I’m tired of, and that’s why I don’t like the “wishlist” topic, is the idea that some can force the dev to work on some point.
It need to be very clear that we are free to work on what we want, some point you can like, some not, but since you work yourself, you can choose on what you want to work. If you want a specific feature, stop to ask and choose between one of this 2 solutions :- do it yourself
- wait to see if somebody will work on it.
I’m sorry if this remark can be rude, but honestly guys, this is really painfull to read this kind of things and I’m tired of that…
NOTE : this is my personal point of view of course, not the BMS one.
-
I think it has been discussed before, though I could be wrong, that the wishlist topics aren’t meant to be interpreted as “Devs, you NEED to do this”, but more as a “We know that, in the end, it’s up to the devs to decide what they implement, but I think X would be nice.”
I do understand that because of the word “petition”, you can interpret this topic more as an order, however, as the word often bears a political load in real life. But you have how many people flying and loving this sim? Definitely a lot more than the number of devs, who I have seen admit (even on this forum, IIRC) that they sometimes lack the time to actually fly because they are too busy coding, modelling, painting, etc.
I’m not saying the devs are blind to what their sim is like. I’m sure they’re not, actually. But if you have hundreds of virtual pilots giving feedback/suggestions/remarks, items will eventually pop up that even the devs didn’t think about, but would undoubtedly improve the sim. If, how and when they actually implement that item is entirely up to them, but at least it came on the devs radar because of user input… (yes, I know there’s the backside of the medal, where users keep asking for stuff that won’t be implemented any time soon cough IFF cough)Anyway, TL;DR: Topics like this are merely suggestions, not direct orders. If I may, I kindly ask you to see them in that light.

Fully agree with AMRAAM.
Submarines has to be considered as static targets like ammo dump or hart sites are. If you think it does not worth to be assigned as target, cancel the generated mission (there are very rare anyway if even existing.)
