Begging for some help from the BMS GODS!
-
Last week I performed some maintance on my computer and plugged all my stuff back into the same port they came out of and in order. When I turned on my CP yep all out of order and I have spent days trying to find a fix to no avail. Windows set my order as MFD #1, MFD 2, Rudder pedals, X-55 stick, X-55 throttle. Have tried all the tricks I could find. I know I can renumber the file but what a pain. So here is my request to the GODS. Please can someone make a program like JOYID that works for windows 7 and higher? This will be the third time I have gone thru this so I figured I would ask you all who have created such an amazing world that BMS has become.

Used JoyID before, works pretty good. But if you want your HOTAS as number 1, just make sure you plug in and install that first before the other stuff. It should remain as number one.

I just spent several hours researching this before I stumbled onto this thread. If Win 10 has listed your USB input devices in the wrong order, follow these instructions:
To make Win 10 list TM Cougar, for example, first in list of USB game controllers:
====
- Unplug all devices from the PC
- Plug-in the Cougar HOTAS
- Run the game controllers control panel applet
- Click the “Advanced” button and set the Cougar HOTAS as the preferred device
- Unplug the Cougar
- Plug-in second game controller, i.e. TM MFD No.1
- Run the game controllers control panel
- Click the “Advanced” button and set the second game controller as the preferred device.
- Unplug the second game controller.
- Rinse and repeat for each additional device.
- Now plug-in the Cougar first, followed by the additional devices
By setting each device to preferred, we actually clear their previous settings. The devices are then renumbered by Win 10 in the order in which they are plugged in.
This information should be posted in one of the Input Device forum or BMS Installation stickys.

Thanks for the help but did not work for me. Tried it 4 times. Win 7 64…
-
Just use joyid works just fine.
-
I tried it, did not work. Best I could find was it does not work win 7 and up. Tried to E-mail the creator of the program and had no reply yet. Maybe I am using it wrong?

I used it last week on win 7 64 bit and worked like a charm.
R you sure you know how it works? I had trouble at start finding out. -
On my Win 7 64 system even though JOYID lists them in a different order, but Windows game controller menu (which BMS always follows for me) always reconfigure them to the same order no matter the which one was plugged in first or which ports/hubs the are plugged into. And unfortunately for my .key it always lists my X65 last which means any time I add a device I have to change my DX numbers. It seems to organize mostly alphabetically, I’ve even regedit the device name but that didn’t work either and goes by the original name.
I was pretty excited when I saw the JOYID link here since I’m about to add another device, but looks like I have some .key editing in my future.

Arty maybe if you could post a quick how to use I would greatly appreciate it. I opened program and it shows all my stuff in the perfect order. Win shows it reversed. I saved the line up and then went back into Joyid and ran the saved script. Nothing happened. I go to game and MFD is always #1……Thanks for all your time.

IIRC first you select the device that you want to change it’s position. Then you click on the position you want for the device you selected previously. Some times it doesn’t get it and you have to redo, like for one of the 4 devices I have. Just to be 100% sure I close the application and reopen it. If I see them as they should then it’s ok.
Used it 3 times in my entire life, all in win7 64, all worked as should.
I never pay attention to the order how are they shown in windows game controllers window (from control panel or devices and printers). Maybe it shows them alphabetically, I just test them as I have programmed them and if they respond as should. In all my 3 cases they worked as should, regardless of windows game controllers window.
Example:
I have:
1=HOTAS
2=MFD2
3=Blank
4=MFD1I want:
1=HOTAS
2=MFD1
3=MFD2
4=BlankSo first I click on 4=MFD1 and then on position 2. when done I check the order. if MFD1 is at position 2 I check where it positioned MFD2. Then I select MFD2 and click on position 3. When done I check the order. I close the app. I open the app and check the order. If all ok I go test in falcon. If not ok I reorder as I wrote and re check.
Till now if I set the order and close the app I never show a different order when I reopened the app just to check.

Does JoyID require a reboot because I didn’t reboot between the reassign.
My windows list is:
MFD 1
MFD 2
Logitech G13
Saitek Pro Combat Rudder Pedals
X65This matches the Falcon layout and the DX button numbers.
My JoyID order is a lot different, I don’t remeber 100% off the top of my head and I’m away from my BMS computer, but JoyID order is something like:
ID#0 X65
ID#1 MFD1
ID#2 MFD2
ID#3 Rudder Pedals
ID#4 Logitech G13I added a stick I had laying around, a Saitek AV8R, which shows above the X65 on the window list and was at the end of the JoyID. I then tried switching the AV8R with the pedals without a reboot and it stayed the same order in Falcon and bumped my X65 down to the set of DX buttons which are unassigned.
-
Not sure but IIRC I didn’t reboot and when rebooted everything was OK.
-
JoyID doesn’t work for me and W10. It seems to handle controllers in a slightly different way. I swear I tried rebooting and running the proggie as admin.
Falcon with W10 appears to be sort of the order the devices were installed. To change it I would go into device manager and uninstall/scan for hardware changes to get an actual change in Falcon device order. I kept this up for a while until I realized that my devices were the same every boot and I was applying the same fix over and over. I gave up and sat down to change all the DX numbers in the key file in ±32 chunks as needed. So far it’s been consistent so my one time effort paid off.

Just curious, those of you that can change the order of the game controllers by plugging in at different times or by JoyID, dId you install the Thrustmaster software for the MFDs?
-
Is there a software specific for the MFDs?
-
Yes the driver’s from Thrustmaster.
-
Arty are you running a 32 bit or 64 bit system? I believe Joystick ID only works with 32 bit? Still cant get joysticks in right order even after fresh win and BMS install…… SAD
-
64 bit

Hehe, hope you weren’t reinstalling just for that reason, when I had my hardware issues this upgrade cycle, I reinstalled Windows 7 three times. Each time it orders them as it wants.
Maybe it had something to do with regional or levels of Windows 7, I’m running U.S. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
My theory about uninstalling the Thrustmaster MFD drivers didn’t pan out either.
