Begging for some help from the BMS GODS!
-
Just use joyid works just fine.
-
I tried it, did not work. Best I could find was it does not work win 7 and up. Tried to E-mail the creator of the program and had no reply yet. Maybe I am using it wrong?
-
I used it last week on win 7 64 bit and worked like a charm.
R you sure you know how it works? I had trouble at start finding out. -
On my Win 7 64 system even though JOYID lists them in a different order, but Windows game controller menu (which BMS always follows for me) always reconfigure them to the same order no matter the which one was plugged in first or which ports/hubs the are plugged into. And unfortunately for my .key it always lists my X65 last which means any time I add a device I have to change my DX numbers. It seems to organize mostly alphabetically, I’ve even regedit the device name but that didn’t work either and goes by the original name.
I was pretty excited when I saw the JOYID link here since I’m about to add another device, but looks like I have some .key editing in my future.

Arty maybe if you could post a quick how to use I would greatly appreciate it. I opened program and it shows all my stuff in the perfect order. Win shows it reversed. I saved the line up and then went back into Joyid and ran the saved script. Nothing happened. I go to game and MFD is always #1……Thanks for all your time.

IIRC first you select the device that you want to change it’s position. Then you click on the position you want for the device you selected previously. Some times it doesn’t get it and you have to redo, like for one of the 4 devices I have. Just to be 100% sure I close the application and reopen it. If I see them as they should then it’s ok.
Used it 3 times in my entire life, all in win7 64, all worked as should.
I never pay attention to the order how are they shown in windows game controllers window (from control panel or devices and printers). Maybe it shows them alphabetically, I just test them as I have programmed them and if they respond as should. In all my 3 cases they worked as should, regardless of windows game controllers window.
Example:
I have:
1=HOTAS
2=MFD2
3=Blank
4=MFD1I want:
1=HOTAS
2=MFD1
3=MFD2
4=BlankSo first I click on 4=MFD1 and then on position 2. when done I check the order. if MFD1 is at position 2 I check where it positioned MFD2. Then I select MFD2 and click on position 3. When done I check the order. I close the app. I open the app and check the order. If all ok I go test in falcon. If not ok I reorder as I wrote and re check.
Till now if I set the order and close the app I never show a different order when I reopened the app just to check.

Does JoyID require a reboot because I didn’t reboot between the reassign.
My windows list is:
MFD 1
MFD 2
Logitech G13
Saitek Pro Combat Rudder Pedals
X65This matches the Falcon layout and the DX button numbers.
My JoyID order is a lot different, I don’t remeber 100% off the top of my head and I’m away from my BMS computer, but JoyID order is something like:
ID#0 X65
ID#1 MFD1
ID#2 MFD2
ID#3 Rudder Pedals
ID#4 Logitech G13I added a stick I had laying around, a Saitek AV8R, which shows above the X65 on the window list and was at the end of the JoyID. I then tried switching the AV8R with the pedals without a reboot and it stayed the same order in Falcon and bumped my X65 down to the set of DX buttons which are unassigned.

Not sure but IIRC I didn’t reboot and when rebooted everything was OK.

JoyID doesn’t work for me and W10. It seems to handle controllers in a slightly different way. I swear I tried rebooting and running the proggie as admin.
Falcon with W10 appears to be sort of the order the devices were installed. To change it I would go into device manager and uninstall/scan for hardware changes to get an actual change in Falcon device order. I kept this up for a while until I realized that my devices were the same every boot and I was applying the same fix over and over. I gave up and sat down to change all the DX numbers in the key file in ±32 chunks as needed. So far it’s been consistent so my one time effort paid off.

Just curious, those of you that can change the order of the game controllers by plugging in at different times or by JoyID, dId you install the Thrustmaster software for the MFDs?
-
Is there a software specific for the MFDs?
-
Yes the driver’s from Thrustmaster.
-
Arty are you running a 32 bit or 64 bit system? I believe Joystick ID only works with 32 bit? Still cant get joysticks in right order even after fresh win and BMS install…… SAD
-
64 bit

Hehe, hope you weren’t reinstalling just for that reason, when I had my hardware issues this upgrade cycle, I reinstalled Windows 7 three times. Each time it orders them as it wants.
Maybe it had something to do with regional or levels of Windows 7, I’m running U.S. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
My theory about uninstalling the Thrustmaster MFD drivers didn’t pan out either.

Joy IDs has never worked for me. It sure would be nice if it did. Here is the way I get the controller order setup correctly. It is cumbersome at first but then you just get used to it. I’m running Windows 10 x64.
1. Open Device Manager
2. In a separate window Browse to Devices and Printers (you should see all your controllers and other things)
3. Right click and remove the device you want to be listed first; you right click and remove in Devices and Printers
4. Alt-tab over to Device Manager and right click in the white space and click scan for hardware changes; it will then re-add your device to the bottom of the controller list in Windows
5. Repeat this for each device…For me I have the HOTAS Warthog (stick and throttle), two MFD’s, MFG Crosswind’s and the Logitech G13. Every device is out of order whenever I reboot so if I want to get it in the correct order I will remove the joystick first, re-add and then remove the throttle, re-add, MFD 1, re-add, MFD 2 re-add, MFG Crosswind’s, re-add, G13, re-add. After I do that everything is in the correct order. If you do it enough it becomes second nature.
With all that said, if you can get Joy IDs to work then it would be much easier.

Win 10. I tried all the forum advice, including JoyID. Nothing could dissuade Win 10 from ordering the USB game controllers with TM MFd’s first and Cougar HOTAS last. Since it was at least consistent, I finally gave up and edited the .key file controller DX assignments, in the order Win 10 likes them. I still have occasional issues of the USB devices turning off while flying. I never had a single issue with USB control devices during the 5 years I used WIN 7 OS. I think the only sure remedy is dual boot system. That would have its own inconveniences, but I would consider Win 7 OS essential for online multiplayer. I hope the BMS devs can provide a fix, but I am not sure that is possible.

Does anybody that has windows setting the order have anything named that should be alphabetically before the MFDs but not?
Everyone that has a set by windows order has MFDs plugged in? What about the Thrustmaster drivers?
-
All I can say is that I install my Cougar first, MFD Cougar Pack next, and all other USB stuff after in no particular order. I have had no problems with device numbering issues Win 7 64 Bit. Make sure you are using the 64 Bit Drivers for your Cougar. My MFD Cougar Pack does not require drivers from Thrustmaster. Windows installs drivers that work just fine. I program the buttons from within the Setup/Controllers section after I boot into the Sim.

Not using a Cougar here. You don’t need the MFD drovers, but I did install the drivers listed at TM for the MFDs so I could get the software lighting control(while we are here anybody remember the button combo for the hardware lighting control?)
I tried uninstalling the TM MFD drivers but the order was the same, but I’m not convinced the uninstalling of the MFD drivers fully delete all the registry entries and may be causing this. They are the only common piece of hardware listed between all of us, and Mailman you are an example of someone who hasn’t installed the MFD drivers but still has control.
It would not surprise me if TM did something so that the MFD order would always stay the same so the programming would stay on whichever physical side the MFDS are on. If the MFDS are allowed to switch the order with other USB plugin +etc. orders, your physicaly left MFD could now be recongized as the right if it was plugged in differently and I have never had that happen.
