Munitions Handbook
-
Greetings,
I wish to know if the “Falcon 4 TacRef” handbook is still valid for BMS 4.33 or it needs to be updated. Also, I noticed that there’s at least one error in the weapons names: the GBU-10I/B is named in the Loadout screen as GBU-10G/B (or, at least, I presume it’s the same bomb…). Do you know if there are other errors one have to be aware of?
Thank you. -
Darkman answered me in the Documentation section (sorry for the duplicate but I got no answers here and I thought I sent the post in the wrong section) that “all documentation valid (and validated) for BMS 4.33 was included in the installation”. So, can someone indicate me where in this documentation can I find the complete ordnance description for the F-16?
Thanks. -
Have you looked at the tactical reference in game?
-
Absolutely. But I found that it doesn’t show adequately the specs of all the weapon versions (it doesn’t even say if a certain weapon is usable by an F-16). And I think it’s a bit strange that, with all those manuals, charts, checklists an so on, one can’t have a simple paper reference usable in flight.
-
Have you looked through the -34 pdf that covers all the weapons and avionics under the documents folder?
This is also this nifty breakdown of all the block/versions https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xRnt0wLXdA34n84OJitRjEFnCEBUlBrmGle9XyE11p0/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=1970623854
There is a column for AA and AG weapons based on which block/version.
-
You chart is partially useful, but the -34 pdf is not. Or at least, I can’t find in that document the differences between the various GBU or CBU versions.

Ehm… thanks but I already know f-16.net and Wikipedia.
Ok, let’s try to come to a conclusion:1- can I assume that a (single) document containing a comprehensive and updated version of the ordnance database simply doesn’t exist (for now)?
2- is there something like a list of “trusted” sites or online references (like Wikipedia itself) so that if I don’t know the specs of a certain weapon I can go there, and know that what I read is what I find in BMS?
-
I don’t know of any public form.
The devs may have some kind of file they used during the production of 4.33.
I don’t know how close to reality each weapon is in terms of its specs in BMS.
-
Ok, but assuming that BMS devs aren’t pilots, ground crew, aeronautical or weapon engineers, for them WHAT is the reality?
This: www.wikipedia.com
This: www.f-16.net
This: fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/index.html
…or something else?
I agree that there must be some reference, but if they don’t provide a specific documentation for the ordnance (like the manuals they have done for avionics, procedures, navigation, etc) they should at least share with us the references they used. -
I-Hawk helped with the mavericks he is probably the best person to talk to.

You will find that each source is a little different. BMS lies somewhere in the middle and changes as the program evolves. There is an old source that has good basic info called Realism Patch 5 Manual. Another is Called Tactical Reference for Falcon 4.0. Mower posted a link to it in this forum somewhere a while back.

At this point I see no alternatives execpt making by myself a table with the basic specs of every bomb model. The problem is the source. Let’s say that for LGBs I need the following informations: model’s name, weight of the warhead and its type (general purpose/penetration); for the CBUs I need: model’s name and submunition type. Do you think that those information, if taken from TacRef 2.0, are still valid for BMS 4.33?
-
I believe so.
Also all GBU’s are dumb bombs with brains/fins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General-purpose_bomb#Modern_American_GP_bombs:_the_Mark_80_series
So their specs should be the same.
Dumb Mk 80 bombs could be converted to smart bombs with attached kits:
GBU-12D Paveway II (Mk 82) laser guided.
GBU-16B Paveway II (Mk 83) laser guided.
GBU-24B Paveway III (Mk 84) laser guided.
GBU-38 JDAM (Mk 82) INS/GPS guided.
GBU-32 JDAM (Mk 83) INS/GPS guided.
GBU-31 JDAM (Mk 84) INS/GPS guided.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GBU-10_Paveway_II
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paveway
The Paveway series of bombs includes:
GBU-10 Paveway II – Mk 84 or BLU-109 2,000 lb (907 kg) bomb
GBU-12 Paveway II – Mk 82 500 lb (227 kg) bomb
GBU-16 Paveway II – Mk 83 1,000 lb (454 kg) bomb
GBU-58 Paveway II – Mk 81 250 lb (113.4 kg) bomb
GBU-22 Paveway III – Mk 82 500 lb (227 kg) bomb. Developed at the same time as GBU-24, with some limited export success, but was not adopted by USA as it was felt to be too small a warhead for the desired effects at the time.
GBU-24 Paveway III – Mk 84/BLU-109 2,000 lb (907 kg) class bomb
GBU-27 Paveway III – BLU-109 2,000 lb (907 kg) bomb with penetration warhead, specially designed for F-117 because the large fins of GBU-24 couldn’t fit into the bomb bay of F-117.
GBU-28 Paveway III – During the Gulf War, the deepest and most hardened Iraqi bunkers could not be defeated by the BLU-109/B penetrator warhead, so a much more powerful “bunker buster” GBU-28 was developed. The latest warhead used in the GBU-28/B series is the BLU-122/B, a development of earlier BLU-113 on early GBU-28s.
Paveway IV – 500 lb (227 kg) bomb
GBU-48 Enhanced Paveway II – Mk 83 1,000 lb (454 kg) bomb. Raytheon’s Enhanced dual-mode GPS and Laser guided version of the laser-only GBU-16.
GBU-49 Enhanced Paveway II – BLU-133 500 lb (227 kg) bomb. Raytheon’s Enhanced dual-mode GPS and Laser guided version of the laser-only GBU-12.
GBU-50 Enhanced Paveway II – Mk 84 or BLU-109 2,000 lb (907 kg) bomb. Raytheon’s Enhanced dual-mode GPS and Laser guided version of the laser-only GBU-10.
GBU-59 Enhanced Paveway II – Mk 81 250 lb (113.4 kg) bomb. Raytheon’s Enhanced dual-mode GPS and Laser guided version of the laser-only GBU-58.
Although GBU-48 etc. are the formal designation for the versions with GPS/INS, they are widely referred to as EGBU-16 etc. (“Enhanced GBU-16”).[1] -
Also just looked in BMS 4.33 and see where it is miss labeled in the loadout screen.
GBU 10 C/B is the deep pen with the BLU.
GBU 10 I/B appears to be just the Mk 84. It might have been labeled G/B for gen purpose. In the Tac ref in game there is no info for the I/B version. Only the C/B which clearly states that it is the BLU version.
I don’t have 4.32 or F4 installed so I can check to see whether this is an error from a previous version or was a mistake in 4.33.
-
You reviewed the added manuals in the 4.33 install?
-
I couldn’t find the difference between the GBU 24 /B and GBU 24 A/B. Then I found this. I hope this helps someone out.
