2007 Jolly Rogers VFA-103 US Navy Skin
-
Just AWESOME dear Burak!!! :drink:
Thank you very much!
May i ask for a very small update on this beauty in order to be more real?
Make the external fuel tank to has the main body camo, like in the real tactical camo.
Check the below photos:
I want to believe that this will be really very easy update, right?
Thanks again for your time and efforts!

Nikos, Itās ārealā

Other than the lack of ālicense platesā implementation I love your work! Fantastic skin, Burak!

Yes, i know that the specific camo for external fuel tank exists.
BUT it is not for the specific camo version of 2007!
Typically it is for the newer one here:
Of course you can see things mixed up like in your real photo. But the typical tactical one camo in year 2007 was the same camo as in the main body.
Check it outā¦
And since i think it is easy for the friend Burak, maybe he can provide also the other one external fuel tankā¦ Maybeā¦!

ā¦you guys do know that only one jet in a Navy squadron is allowed to carry CAG paintā¦right? And that a a second one is allowed to carry a subdued versionā¦all the rest are painted spec.
Wish we had a way to select side number for skins as a user inputā¦that would be way niceā¦
-
Congratulations ! Great Art !

Nikos, I think he already released that skin the thread āJolly Rogersā VFA-103 Skins (BMS 4.33 F-18 D Hornet US Navy Skin)".

I think what youāre referring to is commonly called ālicense platesā, like an alpha channel thatās put on the relevant section of a jet (stab, front fuselage, wings) with multiple MODEX numbers on a texture which are assigned to that area according to user selection. So for a VF-/VFA- squad you might have sth like MODEX 100, 101, 103, 105 or for secondary squads 201, 203, 207 etc
Iām not sure whether thatās implemented or possible but there was a thread about that topic some time ago.
The alternative of having entire sets of different skins for different MODEX numbers is what I used for this pic:
As you see the foreground jet is 100 and background 110, 100 was in skin slot 1 and 110 in slot 2. Given that we have two slots per jet that solution is not optimal.

Awesome work dude, but I would have preferred this skin on the F/A-18F Super Hornet

Iām just using that to showcase the MODEX/License Plate issue. Iām sure Bura has some more stuff in the works

I meant the VFA-103 skin on the F/A-18F, haha sorry ^^
But I like your MODEX job on the Tomcat too !

Hahaā¦yeah, missed that. I only just now noticed that itās acutally the D and not the H. Was the D actually used by the NAVY or did they only start using the F once the Tomcat was retired?
-
It seems to me that the F happened after the withdrawal of Tomcat
-
The legacy D model use (but certainly not limited to) was mostly as a trainer (RAG/FRS squadrons) by the USN, and (still is) used tactically by the USMC. The former VF (Tomcat) squadrons have transitioned to both the āEā and āFā model Super Hornets.

I know that mate, it was just an example for the camo of the external fuel tank and only ;).

Oh NO, no dear friend. You didnāt made a mistake!
Just make IF you want also the dds with the external fuel tank as in my last example, means this
And i say again: IF you want. I will be super happy to have also this specific external fuel tankā¦
Thanks again for your hard efforts.

Lovely skins, but why are you not using the decal sheet for Aircraft numbers?

ā¦yes, thatās itā¦only Iāve never heard them referred to as ālicense platesā at a USN Maintenance desk - only āmodexā or āside numberā. But thatās itā¦more language barriersā¦love the Pukinā Dogs - nice work!
In actuality each hundred series modex aboard ship belongs to a specific tasking within the wing - so Iāve been told. There can be multiple A/C 100s just not from the same squadron; so VFA-13 100 and VFA-111 100 is ligit within the group.
ā¦and Iāve been in situations where all the side numbers have been changed overnightā¦which was a real hassleā¦for me!

An example of late 2000ās CVW composition with side #'s:

I meant commonly called license plates HERE in the texture/3d model world. Of course, theyāre called MODEX/side numbers in real life man.
I retract the āsecondaryā, aware of the tasking specific number scheme.
Pukinā dogs FTW! But only on Tomcat, canāt stomach that look on the bug for some reason.
