Here are the key questions (pun not intended). What is your operating system and what game controllers do you use? If it is windows 10, search this forum for Win 10 HOTAS problems. Windows 10 rearranges the order for listing USB game controller devices and may turn them off while in flight; hence, your controller DX buttons actions may not be correctly recognized in BMS.

Some joysticks are pressing a DX button permanently due to a switch or profile software. If a button is being held down I have had problems with Falcon recognizing a full press release cycle at all.

DX all the way!
Programming in the UI is NOT advisable, you screw up pretty easy, shift commands can not be programmed, saving will lose info, etc.
As you describe it your key could be the reason for having calls setup not being editable in the first place making the UI programming impossible.
When you want to go DX it is better to take a look and understand the Keyfilemanual and can be found in DOCS folder 433, and next program with a simple editor like notepad.
You could also look in controllers section for a realistic setup available, e.g. download my package for a X55 and learn from that.
