Chaff / flare not dispensing once bingo
-
Noticed that chaff and flares don’t release once bingo level is reached.
On one occasion the program was releasing, halfway through reached bingo level and the release program just stopped, even though the program has not yet completed its entire release. Then tried using CMS up and down and left and slap switch, sometimes don’t work but suddenly works and after that all is back to normal…
Anyone experienced the same thing?
-
It should stop at bingo by design but next consent to release continues to use decoys.
-
Just tested it again.
My scenario:
Slap switch dispenses 5 chaff. I only use slap switch to dispense chaff. Once chaff reaches bingo, pressing slap switch again does not dispense chaff. But using CMS fwd or aft will dispense whatever program I selected, thereafter the slap switch works again.
It’s like a consent or dispense using CMS will “unlock” the slap switch once bingo.
Anyone experienced the same thing? Don’t think it’s documented anywhere. -
This behavior is as-designed.
-
Having a quick look at it :
- it seems this happens only in SEMI or AUTO, not MAN
- CMS-Up should be affected just as well as the Slap Switch, contrary to what you describe. Can you confirm ?
This behavior is as-designed.
I wouldnt say that, actually. Manual dispensing should not be affected by bingo, only automatic dispensing.
-
Yep, confirmed “wrong?” behavior. At bingo , SEMI/AUTO does not dispense anymore , SEMI/MANUAL (again) works till depletion.
But… I THINK I’ve read somewhere … a long time ago in a galaxy far away … that MAYBE that is really “as-designed” (as Stevie suggests) , that this way “BINGO” serves as a hard limiter for semi/auto modes … so any consequent dispenses are manual only, more conservative… just my 2c from old and possibly degraded memory - but, is this correct , I don’t know
Cheers

Honestly…as someone that has worked with the RL system, I’m pretty sure BMS is doing the right thing. This is to prevent the crew from simply holding the switch down and firing until empty - anything else would defeat the purpose of the BINGO setting. Not to mention what happens if you should bump the switch and waste a dispense. It’s supposed to get your attention to let you know you’re about out and should probably start thinking of a new gameplan; particularly in AUTO. RL fighter jocks I know avoid using AUTO and prefer MAN. Sometimes SEMI…
What it sounds like is that you’re not setting a desirable BINGO. So change it.

Good Day, Stevie and All,
Bear with me , as I’m not at home to test, and I’m working from memory as I had previously disabled BINGO(because of this very issue). Anyway on my setup I dispense 1 chaff with CMDS Fore, 1 flare with CMDS left, and I have a separate Slap program. I generally run SEMI.
When I had enabled BINGO, I had set it at 5.What I had noticed is that at 5, c/f would not dispense, even upon CMDS forward/left.
So, what should my procedure be? I’d rather stay in SEMI, but do I have to switch to MAN? -
You probably couldn’t get a dispense once you reached 5 because you didn’t have enough rounds left to complete the Program - there’s a bit of thinking that has to go into 1) setting your BINGO, 2) setting your Program. You need to insure that you have things set up to match intervals of complete dispenses for each actuation.
Inadvertent bumping of the CMS switch is a real problem for my thumb…I used to waste a lot of rounds that way until I rigged my switch to require a positive actuation - I programmed in a delay of some number of milliseconds (I forget just how much, I’ve had it that way for some time now) in order to command a dispense - and I still generally only use MAN, like the RL jocks I know. I don’t want them out unless I want them out. Also hawk your Program selection - I’ve been bitten by that myself, and dispensed some other Program by mistake because I’d rolled the Program and not realized it…or exited setting up a new one without rolling back to what I really wanted under trigger at the time.
Set your BINGO such that you can complete 3 to 4 dispenses to Winchester - this will depend on just how many Bogeys you expect to encounter. But this way you should have enough left to defend as you disengage…you have to come up with an exit plan and how to cover that before you get engaged. When you have to Consent, that’s your cue to be bugging out.

Stevie, my PROG 1 is set to one chaff, and 5 is one flare . So, while you’d be right with my Slap program, shouldn’t I have 5 complete PROG 1’s(for example) before I’m out, and thus should be able to deploy those last 5?
It’s interesting to me you fly with MAN. You don’t find SEMI’s warning to activate jammer useful? I have mixed feelings about it myself. Be that as it may, are we saying here that using MAN will “give me” those last 5 expendables? -

Also, CMS Aft & Right always activate/deactivate the jammer, including in MAN.

CMS Aft will clear the bingo and you can dispense again.
Thx, l3, that was the missing piece of the puzzle

…I think that’s what I mean by “Consent”…I think.

Be that as it may, are we saying here that using MAN will “give me” those last 5 expendables?I would think so, but in RL I can’t think of a Program that would have you releasing just one item tactically…that’s why it didn’t occur to me. MAN should make you the only vote - so MAN should always give you what’s there - even through the BINGO point - so you have to keep watch.
As for the Jammer - I always activate it when I think I need it, and strangle it when I think I don’t. That way I I’m not sending out emissions that might invite an HOJ scenario when I’m otherwise naked.
