Working mirrors?

Well with the new addition in the F-18D mirrors might get handy… refresh the makeup… put some lipstick… take a glance at the chick…
actually this would be like showing 2 more WPN or TGP pages (kinda). Also I don’t know if the code can display backwards things… in that case if mirrors could be implemented than and a 360 view could be done???
HHHhhhmhmmmm…

IMHO mirriors are pointless.
Honestly, in the era what most of players play with Falcon what would be te benefits of mirrors…? You can’t see coming any AAM bececause advanced SR IR AAM are smokless.
Even you can see R-73 it means it is launched at very close by some and you cannot outmanouver it and in case you try with flares. In Falcon you can consider R-73 literally immune to flare.(AIM-9M is same case.)
If anything is on your six and you can see it mirrior you are already dead.
In cost of FPS is what Arty said. More and more TGP, while even the MAV /TGP has very very serious impact on FPS. BTW on F-16 is no mirriors which is the main modeled AC of BMS4.

against missiles, mirrors are pointless, yes… but they are useful if you want to have a quick glance at your six for any other reason : check your wingman, etc… F-16 has no mirror thanks to his great canopy, but many contemporary acfts still have some : Mirage 2000, Hornet, etc.
That said, yes, they are usually framerate eaters in flight sims (excepted for IL-2, in which they have no impact and do their job very well). -

as said. the falcon graphics engine is the limiting factor here… maybe someday in the far off 3-4 week future we will see a completely new graphics engine or a heavily modified one (though i’m assuming it’s already modified).
IFF is a 3-4 week pipedream as well but this time due to the system being classified and don’t know enough about it to simulate it, even now datalink and radio comms are getting tweaked still to reflect the real world… i’ve been told by a few people (former pilots included) that the datalink in cont mode would get interrupted when transmissions occur on the radio, which is not the case yet in bms.
my most looked forward feature would have to be expanded HMCS simulation. it’s an incredibly powerfull tool if it worked in it’s full capacity in the A-G role as well.

Don’t want to talk again and again about this in public and hack this thread, but, you are wrong.

It is mentioned before, current data link will need a small update in order to behave like real. Nothing difficult, I guess in time.

Mnay type of Links are there.
If you talk about the one that seems to be emulated in BMS, yes. The IDM is setup on one or the other radio, (usually on interflight, to avoid screewing up common freq -Awacs- and such), so if you are using that radio with voice, the IDM will loose incoming info, and also its slot to transmit to others.
If you talk about really actual Links… no worries at all. You will have secure voice (two radios as usual) and data (a loooot of data), with no interference at all between voice and data or anything.
Sometimes I feel we ask for such in detail things, that we are missing how wonderfull BMS was and is , as it is right now.
Keep it up!

Absolutely not. IFF is not confidential, you can find almost all info on the web … only crypto are.

i stand corrected.
maybe someday hopefully then we can use squawk codes and iff then :), i mean crypto can be faked, that doesnt have to be accurate at all.
in the meantime i’ll go back and see what other goodies i’ve missed so far in bms… i swear i run into something new every so often

Pointless anyway … no need to implement any crypto stuff … crypto would be transparent for the virtual pilot as it is for the real pilot IRL.

Some?
I believe this is the majority.
Most subjects are talked to death details.
I understand the passion and the need programmer’s have for details, also the details in objects skins etc that are the salt and pepper.
And also I share your opinion that we overdo it those times.
The good (?) thing is many guys got tired of arguing or repeating arguments in posts and things got a bit better on repetition of the subjects.sent from my Xperia Z3 compact via TapaTalk

Agree with Molni that the mirrors have little value in a modern Falcon World. We have hi res low FPS hit ones in SF2 but they have very little rear coverage……and although you do rarely pick up aircraft or tracers, you still need to bank, and look over the shoulder to be confident nothing is about to hose you down.
