FPS drop
-
Was just playing the AIM-120 AMRAAM training TE in 4.33.1 converted from 4.32 and got a bad hit on FPS the worst i’ve had ever playing BMS. Since i got my GTX 960 playing 4.32 was much smoother and better FPS and up to now in 4.33.1 its been equally as good, but i’ve only been flying the training TE’s, and first time i tried this TE i got a pretty bad hit on my FPS. I’m hoping its a one off for some reason. Has anyone else had the occasional hit in FPS? or did you get it constantly which made you alter any settings? not too happy to be getting this with a GTX 960 which cost £165.

Hello, guy, maybe you can try to change the setting to “0” see the sample here
set g_bExportRTTTextures 0 in Falcon BMS.cfg -

set g_bExportRTTTextures 0 in Falcon BMS.cfgWell i’m not sure what it was before, but i played the same TE again and the FPS was fine…weird. The only thing that changed was i closed all windows i had open for google chrome. But thanks for that, something i could try in future if i start getting a bad hit on my FPS regularly.

Just FYI, I often run the Task Manager in a small window on my secondary monitor to get an idea of computer usage, and I’ve noticed long ago that Google Chrome can be very resource hungry, especially depending on your Chrome configuration. I would strongly advise not running Chrome (or any other resource-hungry application) when running Falcon.

Super strongly advised :
Everything - all - whatever is not needed for Falcon or mission must be closed. Including services.
Flight sims demand high resources, so provide them.

Yea thought as much. All i’ll have running from now on when playing Falcon is FaceTrackNoIR. As well as Google Chrome at times, i also more often than not have steam running so will close that too.
Just noticed SoBad, you have the exact same CPU as myself. What do you think of it?

I don’t have unlimited funds, so I had to make my best researched choice based on price/performance of both the CPU and the graphics card. I get ~50-60fps 90% of the time with my configuration. More importantly, I never have periods of stutteringly slow performance, so I’m happy.

I make separate logins for resource hungry software, this way I can set my start up to what ever config I want to maximize my resources.

Well you have doubled the RAM i have, whats’ your graphics card?

I think it’s not the issue of “what someone has” in there rig so much as how it is configured and what hardware/software your using. As a good reference, the CPU should be above 3Ghz. Since bms is very CPU intensive, the CPU needs to be up to speed. The GFX card should be newer, 5 years old or newer. RAM should be 8Gig or greater. The bms manual has a reference to hardware specs. Obviously, the faster CPU will perform the best. The better/newer GFX card will have the best appearance for all of the features. Fast (FBS)/more RAM will load and run bms better. Rules of thumb for making your rig run bms better.
