[REL] dedicated server for Windows with no GPU
-
I had such an install for three years. 4.32 runs under WinXP SP3 DX9 without any problems. Some disadvantage is the fact that WinXP will ‘see’ only 3 gig of RAM.

how can i use on windows xp sp3 x32 falcon 4.32 ???
Why would you do that? Just curious …

Hi folks,
I just set up a new 4.33.1 server using the latest DLL provided in post #1. and I’m only getting 3fps when the server enters the 3d world.
Is this due to the update? I’ve disabled all the eye candy and disabled triple buffering in falcon bms.cfg. Anything else I could try?
Thanks, Uwe

Hi Uwe, using the same files and we’re getting 70-80 fps with 4.33 U1

Thanks for your comment, Scorpion. I think I may be doing something wrong… fps are ok in 2d, but drop to the single digits in 3d in a small TE with a couple of flights and no ground units. What kind of system are you using the dll on? Do I need to enable LLVM somewhere within qemu?
Thanks, Uwe

Hi,
I’m trying to build the wine version on ubuntu 15 and I’m having the error below:
I’m also checking that I’m in the correct branch :
Sthalik, Is there something wrong with the build ?
Thanks

Is this still working on 4.33U1? Tried using it on my VPS today and the game crashes on launch.
-
Can confirm tanaKa’s issue I am having the same one as well. The program crashes right at launch.
-
I would suspect that 4.33 U1 looks for some original Falcon 4.0 installation and doesn’t find it ?

Just a quick update. x64 crashes instantly on launch, but x86 shows a splash screen, then crashes on initialization.
Edit- Here is the crash log. http://pastebin.com/txaLsX3d

Hi folks,
I’ve tried removing the particlesys.ini file as recommended here from my new bms 433 u1 install, but still fps haven’t improved by much.
Here’s a screenshot of the gallium elements after having entered 3d, disconnected for a minute and then reconnected via rdp:
As you can see the cpu isn’t the bottleneck, so I think something else is amiss on the system.
Client / Guest specs:
- win7 prof. 64bit sp3
- 4 GB RAM
- 4 cores allocated to the guest
Host specs:
- CentOS 6 64bit /w latest patches
- HP Proliant DL380g5
- 16 GB total RAM
- 8x146GB SAS disks (or thereabouts), RAID-5
- CPU info:
model name : Intel Xeon CPU E5345 @ 2.33GHz
stepping : 7
microcode : 107
cpu MHz : 2333.338
cache size : 4096 KB
(8 cores total)
The host is idle otherwise when BMS runs.
We flew a mostly trouble-free Balkans campaign mission with 13 pilots on Tuesday so maybe the low fps is a non-issue, but I’m still wondering why others are seeing fps in the 60s in 3d on the guest?
Thanks,
Uwe
EDIT: fps in 2d are around 50-60 or at least generally nowhere near the value I’m seeing in 3d

Any suggestions for me and tanaKa we can’t seem to get the servers working? I have pretty much the same crashlog as he does.
-
Are you running as admin? 32 bit color depth? Sound device available in your windows guest? 64 bit OS? removed particlesys.ini? Tried a fresh falcon bms install?
Sorry I’m just firing away questions, I’m not really an expert on the windows side of things. I have had intermittent crashes on launch too, but they usually went away after a reboot of the windows vm.
Cheers, Uwe

Tried all of those suggestions but it still crashes at launch.

I guess someone from BMS should tell them the obvious……

Hi folks,
our server instance has started crashing when exiting from the 3d world (hitting ESC e). Any ideas what could be causing this? It’s kind of a bad problem because now we’re unable to save any campaign progress locally on the server once the server exits the mission.
All the best & thanks in advance,
Uwe
EDIT: Managed to fix the issue by making sure the remote sound would be played locally over the rdp connection (missing sound device, I guess).

Why are you stopping the server ? Ours stays in 3d until I am forced to reboot BMS (once a week or if the server jumps out of 3d)
I usually pause ours after we have finished. And do a quick save “Alt C : Q”
-
the server’s only running for campaign flights involving humans, that’s why we’re stopping the server (and saving the game) after MP sessions. The win7 VM gets rebooted daily, too.
Thanks for the quicksave keyboard shortcut, I guess that could come in handy.
Cheers, Uwe
