Falcon BMS 4.34: IFF and Comms Video Tutorial, What’s New
-
Hey y’all! I’ve created a video tutorial for everything new in Falcon BMS 4.34. I cover the new IFF system, the new comms procedures, the new ramp start procedure and pitfalls, and a bunch of other miscellaneous changes.
It’s a 30-minute video but you can skip to the portions you want to learn about:
Ramp Start - 0:18
New Comms Procedures - 4:21
IFF - 14:52
Everything else - 27:45The comms and IFF sections are especially important to understand. I put a quick IFF theory course in there. Let me know if there are any errors or omissions and I will make the changes. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it!

Excellent video!
EDIT: ok … lets say “good” because of some mistakes. …
Details are described in manuals.

Cool video, but some minor errors on Mode 4 monitoring
With AUD selected, a tone in the headset will be generated, indicating that the transponder has not replied to a Mode 4 interrogation. Not the Betty IFF VMU
With LIT selected, valid Mode 4 replies are reported via mnemonic highlight on the DED.
The IFF caution is illuminated if no reply is sent in response to a Mode 4 interrogation because Mode 4 is not enabled, or the RF switch is in QUIET or SILENT. The Mode 4 caution light is continuously illuminated if the Mode 4 crypto is not loaded or has been zeroized.

great video, the best so far
small mistakes
-
in the approach when you say that you request urestricted approach, you actually asked an overhead …no big deal but worth mentioning.
-
you should precise that the leader need to report on final as well after the overhead break
-
Host start : you could have explained the procedure in case of hotstart (JFS ventilating and cooling before restart )

Excellent video!!! Very well done my friend. Thanks for taking the time to provide this to the group.

Great tutorial apreciate your time .combined with the manuals is easier to comprehent everything

Updated video to address the factual errors all y’all brought up:
-
Flight manual says ‘All aircraft have transponders but not all have interrogator capabilities.’ Doesn’t say which ones. Is there a list?
I’ve noticed some don’t have the interrogator.Edit: Just looked at avionics configurator IFF to see who has interrogator, so I found a list in a way.

Sorry for not reviewing before your new upload, but I do have a few remarks
Mode C can be useful in BMS Some jets have mode C interrogation capability, HAF F-16 for example.
To demonstrate it, you can use a HAF F-16 Block 52. As a target, use AI F-16 in a ‘TRAINING’ type of mission, in a TE. They will enable MC.
MC reply display is a bit different compared to the other modes.@21:23 : you also need to put the scratchpad on TIM and press ‘0’ (IIRC) to enable TIME automatic changes. Just changing the time criteria of events do not enable TIME right away.
@22:09 : the modes will not ‘toggle’ in a POS event.
If I have M1234 enabled, and I trigger a POS event with M123C enabled in the corresponding POS page :- from your explanation, it can be understood that the active modes switch to M4C.
- actually, the active modes switch to M123C.
@24:25ish : in your example, the contacts at 40 NM would get interrogated as well
LOS reduces the scan volume in azimuth only. A better way to demonstrate would be with an interrogation on the left of the radar screen, with contacts on the right which would not be interrogated.
