Eye tracking presented on CES

touchscreen owners yawn. :uham:
this will never beat touchscreens but for the finger flying guys of this bubbling community …http://www.tomshardware.com/news/tobii-eye-tracking-eyex,25694.html
I suppose no subforum should be created for this.

Hi,
There is an open community I’m on: http://developer.tobii.com/community-forums/ that work in implementing it with some games/programs. They already have some done: ED, ArmaIII, DayZ, The Division, MFS, DCS, TakeOn, etc.Actually I think it could be a great addition to BMS, if that game integration development is done.
Yep, BMS use relative mouse positions I know, but this stuff could just work as a mouse pointer. It could be programmed to work exactly as a mouse! the only difference is that you have to look where you want the pointer to go, then it could work in BMS without touching BMS code!
EyeX uses a program (Infinite screen) that detect program exe and loads a code to work consecuently with it.I’m kind of a techie and I had to try this, so I bought it. Of course it doesn’t work ‘per se’ in BMS as I expected but it works very good and precise as a mouse device or with those games.
Some others we asked about being able to marry EyeX with TrackIR, this way you could move your head and, when not moving, allowing EyeX to follow your eyes, for instance to a switch we want to operate.Sadly I’m not a developers myself but others here they are. They could have a look to the examples and interfaces already done and se if it is doable. And I DON’T MEAN BMS DEVS they have enough and I thank them for everything they do for us all!
EyeX is not an expensive device comparing to an actual VR or big touchscreen: http://www.tobii.com/xperience/products/buy/ and it could be very helpfull for those who just have an screen and a HOTAS. The only con is that you have to be about 1 meter away from the device to be able to use it (far aways it will not see your eyes). So I did it with a 32" screen but more than that I don’t think it could work properly.
I have to say that I don’t plan to use this for my pit. I’m building a full scale one but I see the potential of EyeX in BMS for others or for a portable pit for me.
Have fun! -
+1 mrwell…that was also my first thought - use it to augment or eliminate TIR.

Well… Will it be and a head tracker?
Overall this will not be that great cause u still need the mouse.
Secondly u must look around click on icp look at ded…
In the 3d pit with mouse is already difficult, this will be more.Nice features it has, good for guys with disabilities.
More fitted I would say would be the leap motion.

Arty,
This actually IS (or could be) like a mouse! The only problem is you need right/left button and wheel, that could be easily done with some shifting on the HOTAS.
You’ll not need a mouse then.
About the looking other places that’s why I said implementing with TrackIR and not alone I edit to clarify, if it is activated when Trackir movement is stable you’ll put mouse pointer where you look, screen will not move.

The tobii eye 4c currently does support headtracking on XYZ axis so I think this should be a serious tracker to look at and maybe implement! Think it would be a great addition to BMS
