Horrible FPS
-
Hi all! Super excited to get started with this game but also super frustrated. I am getting very poor FPS even with my settings turned down. I am running a GTX 980, an Intel 4790K and 16GB of RAM, so it’s not a low end system. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Thank you!

What do you consider very low frame rate?
Are you running other software in the background (check system tray)? Are you running windowed or fullscreen? Have you gone through settings in configuration to see if anything could be causing performance issues (vsynch, antialiasing, etc)? Have you looked at the manual to see what performance discussions they have included (don’t have access to the manuals to see for myself right now).
Occasionally I forget to turn off my anti-virus and if it starts a disc scan while I’m playing it has a huge impact on my framerates so I turn it off.

Try to test several settings. Start from all graphic options at minimum (on BMS), choose a TE to work with and start raising the sliders in phases as u check the FPS.
Do it until u will get the best configuration that u find is the best 4 u.

Go to User/Config. Open falcon bms.cfg with notepad and find the following entry:
set g_bExportRTTTextures 0 Change it from 1 to 0. Start with this option and see if you get any FPS back.

More questions for you…
What resolution are you running?
One of the first things you can try is to force “max performance mode” instead of “adaptive” on nvidia control panel.

If you put your system specs in you r signature it makes it easier for people to diagnose your problem. The system you have should run BMS easily, but start everything application controlled in nvidea. then min settings in bms config. As Mystic said if you are using a single monitor disable rtt textures in the user/config file. then report back. Have fun.

As others have said, what exactly are you getting in terms of FPS numbers? What mission/scenario is this? What resolutions are you running at?
If you check out my FPS Testing thread, I have a 980Ti running on an extremely taxing mission and pushing 4 screens from a single card. You should get better numbers than I am even on a 980 if you are running single screen.

I used Fraps to test FPS while running minimum and maximum settings and found something rather curious. It seems to be locked at 30 FPS. Even if I go into Nvidia inspector and lock it at something like 60 FPS (my monitor’s refresh rate) and the FPS doesn’t seem to change no matter what. Is there some FPS limiter internal to the game that I can set?

vSync on?
Also, there is a frame rate lock in the FRAPs settings …. 30, 45, and 60 I think.
In-game FPS counter is probably better. 4.33.1 default is, I think, ALT-C, release, then F.

What ever the problem it is defiantly NOT in the in-game settings.
The only thing which might have a slight effect on your system would be BMS Display Extraction. And if you have turned up the trees & grass sliders.
So leave all the in-game options as they were by default.
It must be a problem with your Install or GPU drivers.
Are you running on a 4k monitor?
I see, are you using a HDMI cable ? -
I am using a 1920 by 1080 monitor with a HDMI cable. And with the BMS fps counter I still get the same result. I also installed the latest Nvidia driver, to no effect.

It’s not a “frame rate lock” What you are seeing is the Frame Capture Rate. FCR not FPS

Is it only Falcon that is suffering?
Do you have a DVI or VGA cable you cant test with ?

If V sync is on it maybe limiting framerate to half your monitor refresh rate. check in Nvidea inspector. I believe you definitely should be getting a higher framerate than what you are seeing.

Thanks sub 101! That did the trick. I’ve still got to do optimization, but I’m on the right track now. See you in the sky!

Glad that you are on the right track now. what you need is a setup which is stable, I have limited my fps to my monitor refresh, which is plenty I then configured NVidea inspector to app controlled. used v sync to stop tearing. my fps are now fairly stable. ie 60 down to 40 when very busy. I don’t think a fps above 60 is any advantage really on one monitor. The best setup is to make your lowest fps playable.
