Warthog Stick / Cougar Throttle
-
Hi guys,
today i received my Warthog stick. I was planning on using the stick with the Cougar throttle, while leaving the Cougar connected at the back on my setup.
With the Cougar i was using Dunc’s DX profile and i would like to do so again. But how do i set it up like that?
iirc, you can only set up 32 DX buttons, the Cougar alone takes 27 already. Do i need to have and use “Target” for the Warthog and Foxy for the Cougar? Or do i need to combine them to a single device?
It’s been awhile since my last setup and it must be real simple, but atm i just cant see it

32 DX buttons …. per device. It’s two separate devices, right? IMHO, do not use Target nor combine them to 1 device.
Kolbe has included a Warthog/Cougar TQS combo in his keyfile spreadsheet … should have a set of default assignments. Like so:
#================================================================================== SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -2 "========= STICK UNSHIFTED =========" SimTriggerFirstDetent 0 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimPickle 1 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimHotasPinkyShift 2 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimAPOverride 3 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimMissileStep 4 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTriggerSecondDetent 5 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTMSUp 6 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTMSRight 7 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTMSDown 8 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTMSLeft 9 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDMSUp 10 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDMSRight 11 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDMSDown 12 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDMSLeft 13 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCMSUp 14 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCMSRight 15 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCMSDown 16 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCMSLeft 17 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 AFElevatorTrimUp 0 -1 -3 0 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 0 -1 -3 1 0x0 -1 AFAileronTrimRight 0 -1 -3 2 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 0 -1 -3 3 0x0 -1 AFElevatorTrimDown 0 -1 -3 4 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 0 -1 -3 5 0x0 -1 AFAileronTrimLeft 0 -1 -3 6 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 0 -1 -3 7 0x0 -1 #================================================================================== SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -2 "========= STICK SHIFTED =========" SimDoNothing 256 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 AFResetTrim 257 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimHotasPinkyShift 258 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimEject 259 -1 -2 0 0x0 117 SimFuelDoorToggle 260 -1 -2 0 0x0 311 SimDoNothing 261 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 FOVToggle 262 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimHSIModeInc 263 -1 -2 0 0x0 125 SimAVTRToggle 264 -1 -2 0 0x0 115 SimHSIModeDec 265 -1 -2 0 0x0 125 OTWSelect3DCockpitMode 266 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 OTWSelectOrbitMode 267 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 OTWSelect2DCockpitMode 268 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 OTWSelectHUDMode 269 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimHmsSymWheelUp 270 -1 -2 0 0x0 116 SimExtlPower 271 -1 -2 0 0x0 115 SimHmsSymWheelDn 272 -1 -2 0 0x0 116 SimECMOn 273 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 OTWViewUp 2 -1 -3 0 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 2 -1 -3 1 0x0 -1 OTWViewRight 2 -1 -3 2 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 2 -1 -3 3 0x0 -1 OTWViewDown 2 -1 -3 4 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 2 -1 -3 5 0x0 -1 OTWViewLeft 2 -1 -3 6 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 2 -1 -3 7 0x0 -1 #================================================================================== SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -2 "======== THROTTLE UNSHIFTED ========" SimDoNothing 32 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTransmitCom2 33 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimTransmitCom1 34 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCommsSwitchRight 35 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCommsSwitchLeft 36 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDeselectOverride 37 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimSelectSRMOverride 38 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimSelectMRMOverride 39 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimDoNothing 40 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 AFBrakesOut 41 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 AFBrakesIn 42 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimToggleMissileCage 43 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1 SimCursorEnable 44 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1

What if i open the BMS -Full-key file. It has the cougar selected as 1st DX device, also showing that in Windows control panel. Can i just copy the Cougar lines in the key file and modify the DX buttons to the Warthog stick?
For example: “SimTriggerFirstDetent 0” is the first button on the Cougar atm and “SimDoNothing 256” is it’s shifted state. Can i just copy and paste that line to the bottom of the key file as “SimTriggerFirstDetent 33” and “SimDoNothing 289”?
33 should be the first button on the second device and 289 = 33+256 for it’s shifted state.
I think Kolbe’s keyfile stuff is a little bit overwhelming at first sight

What is wrong with Target? I continually see posts on here from people who want to use 2 different DX controllers limiting there program ability. then complain they run out of slots. Believe me there is nothing wrong with target script or target gui, utilise both with BMS Keyfile and you literally have an amazing amount of options. If you use DX commands for a lot of the stick this will free up keyboard commands to use as you wish. Keyfile editor is very good when you know how. To Know how practice with it.

…I think so …. assuming the Warthog Stick is device #2.
You should be able to do what you’re talking about (manually re-assigning commands to buttons on a different device). It’s about matching up the button number to the right command. Do try a couple and test it out. If it seems to be on track … do a few more.
Once your confident that the button numbering and keyfile are aligned finish your changes and test.
Save a copy of your original stuff. Just in case.

What is wrong with Target? ….
Nothing ‘wrong’ with it as far as I know (unlike, say, Saitek SST), I just find it completely unnecessary, at least for a Warthog Stick. I can replicate 100% the F-16 SSC plus get an addition (shifted) layer of functions with BMS alone.

I got it working like it used to be.
I saved the BMS key file with a different name and in BMS setup and mapped the buttons on the stick and save the new key file.
Then i closed BMS and opened the key file with notepad and change the shifted keys
