Well, heard nothing
so jumped into the FSSb r2 and tusba and rusba……
should have them next week.

I have a TUSBA R2 and love it. Personally, I think the upgrade to 12 bit resolution is just as good as any Hall sensor mod…you will notice the difference in control over a stock 10 bit Cougar.
-
I’d consider opting for that upgrade if it also came with an equivalent to the UTM bushings, since I’d be clamping something around the throttle shaft anyway. Might as well replace the crappy plastic stock bushings.
But since it doesn’t, I might as well nab whatever Hall sensor and linkages Sokol1 used and do it that way.

Part of that’s because the only 10-bit resolution axes on the Cougar are the stick X and Y axes to begin with. Everything else just gets 8-bit resolution sampling, including all the throttle axes. For something with as much range of motion as the throttle axis, you’re bound to notice the improvement.
However, the TUSBA R2’s inherent incompatibility with TARGET is what rules it out for me. Part of the appeal of the Cougar is that it’s one DirectInput device, which complicates things a lot less for games in general, if not Falcon BMS specifically due to it being multi-controller-aware for years. The only workaround is to create a TARGET virtual controller.

Thank you, looking forward to this upgrade.

NamelessPFG,
Are the UTM bushings, still be made and sold?

I have read this entire 13 page thread, and as one that owns almost every Cougar mod devised, I have too say I am impressed as heck. I ordered a set just to try it out myself. This mod could be the most economical way to bring a stock Cougar set back to life by replacing pots and gimbals with hall sensors for both the stick and throttle.
He is also making a TQS PCB replacement which will be good because they are no longer available from TM. It will have its own USB cable so it won’t plug into the Cougar stick base, which is good news because it makes the TQS standalone, the downside is it won’t be TUSBA compatible.
Proof is in the pudding though, so until I receive and test against my other Cougar sets (FCC3, FSSB-R1, TUSBA-R2 and I have a Cubby HS stick somewhere), I cannot vouche for it yet. But it sure looks promising.

I gave up on TARGET a looong time ago…I have enough other outboard utilities running to support my pit that I don’t need one more hogging my CPU. At this point, if it’s not native to BMS or something I need to support my interface electronics, I do without it.

This mod from MilesD fwiw is terrific, I received mine a few months back, it’s really easy to install and configure and it works perfectly with RS TUSBA > I waited much longer for a replacement Z pot from TM so long, I almost forgot about it and tbh I can now forget about it because I am delighted with the mod from Miles, he’s cured a lot of headaches with this one.

For cost and installation, the best mod out there. After Andres’ Jetseat, of course.
