AI wingman / element HATES anything to do with bombing / A-G missions
-
Everytime I fly a strike, or DEAD, or anything that involves bombs or AG missiles my AI friends do nothing when it comes to the attack itself. I even wait for them to do something, telling them “weapons free” but to no avail.
Does anyone know if there is a certain wingman command to use? I just say “weapons free” but am wondering if there is another.
Anyone else have this issue.

Ask them for AG datalink or wait for them to hounddog in AG tasking. “Weapons free” before they have an AG target in mind is worthless.
BMS is a little funny and the AI will fly very close to the mission target before they hounddog sometimes. Today I approached with a pair of Mavericks tasked PreCAS on a tank BN and they asked at 10nm, perfect. Other times I’m <6nm away on a strike mission before they ask which means they have to go around again.
If you have a non-mission target or just want to enforce a particular target put your cursors (TGP, padlock, FCR) over it and direct them “Attack My Target.”
Requesting the AG Datalink is the best way to get inside the AI mind to find out which AG target he is attacking or would attack given permission.

“Attack My Target” worked for me. AI wanted to hit a random truck instead of a SA-2. Thanks!

I don’t have issues getting them to attack, I just wish they would “one pass, haul …” or at least drop their bombs in pairs. Quite often they will rejoin with a GBU24 still attached and I want them to come home with me so I don’t send them round again.
Can we get dropping in pairs to be the default action for AI and dumb bombs please?

+1 on Malc’s suggestion. It was rumored a while ago that the AI uses the human release settings, but that’s definitely not true anymore in 4.33U1.
All the best, Uwe

because IRL, you will not drop a LGB in pair.
For dumb bomb, AI will copy your SMS setting. -

Same problem What I do is after he drops his bomb, I again give attack my target again and after he does I ask for a weapons check If we have time I’ll repeat if necessary . most of the time I get good results in the debrief

I’m surprised, for what it’s worth, that you have issues with that. My AI wingmen can obey orders (video examples in the end) and when they’re too close or need several passes, they take the time to get far away enough for a clean approach, which may look confusing at first, when you’re not used to it - and I suppose it’s as realistic as several approaches can be…
Engage my target:
Attack targets (any of the same kind, but not mine):

It would be good if that breakaway to gain distance for another attack run could be coded to a default amount because they often as not make several attempts before they end up far enough away or their very slow turns back mean they are too close again when facing the target. Maybe its that turn rate that needs increasing. Or both.
