Using WDP over network
-
Hi all
Does anybody know where I can find detailed instructions on how to use wdp on a networked laptop as i’m having problems getting it to work. I can browse to files on main pc but for some reason its not finding the database file and there’s no way to set it up manually. All files are shared with read/write permissions. Also do I need to open a port for it.Any help much appreciated
Thanks

First you must map the network drive in your laptop
http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/guides/computer/howto/map_win7.cfmnow you might need to share the falcon directory or the whole hdd (C:\ for example). This you do it on the pc running falcon to fly the mission.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/300856 (this has and the map network drive also)
http://lifehacker.com/5808814/how-to-share-a-folder-over-your-network-for-beginners
http://www.wikihow.com/Share-a-FolderNow depending on your accounts and settings this might get tricky. I ususally create the same users on both pc with same username and password. This has the caveat that you have to login on startup but after networking and sharing works just fine.
Second you might have to install Falcon on the laptop.
third on the laptop start WDP and
First click settings.
On Falcon Location click Browse and select the mapped drive location of falcon.
Same for Tdf Location… (it should IIRC take it automatically from previous step)On datacard directory you can do the same or select a local drive directory if you wish.
From open mission you open from your mapped network drive not the local. That’s all.
EnjoyEdit: Forgot to say that once you are done with WDP for the first time setting it up as I wrote you will have to restart WDP cause IIRC it still thinks it’s on local directories.
Also for avoiding connection problems and delays… first boot the pc that you will fly and then open the laptop. That way the connection will get active 100% else mapping the network drive (if you set it to do it on startup) might not work and trouble you. -
Thanks arty
Used to have this setup with 4.32 and working but forgot all about mapping drives
Been scratching my head all weekend on this lol
Thanks for your help you’re a star -
Ok mapped drive everything is shared on both pc and laptop but it still can’t find DB Location when browsing to mapped drive.
Think I might be missing something. -
falcon installed on laptop?
