4.33.1 F/A-18C MP issue
-
Hey guys,
Joining as a client to my friends game I’m having a weird issue with the Hornet. The host’s aircraft wings keep folding up and then snapping back to extended then slowly folding back up continuously.
This is in the Balkans theater, bandwidth set to 1024 with no other net issues. Able to fly mission just fine but this is annoying me.
Cheers.

When You flying F-18 C Hornet on MP - Flight Leader must go to 3D as last one. If You join in 3 D in the same time you will see that bug.

Sorry, but I’m skeptical. We’ve seen that bug from time-to-time as well, but our flight lead is almost never the last into 3D (usually first) and the vast majority of the time we don’t see the issue.
More likely seen if joining 3D, leaving, then coming back. Or some other BW/Network/Graphics speed glitch.

So do like i said. When you flight 2 or more Hornets flight lead coming to 3D last one. All should be good . I use that way to fly hornet whit friends. We try options leave and come back but still something was wrong. You don’t loose nothing if you try my way

What is the hosts BW setting?

I know exactly what that issue is. This value in the server .cfg (set g_nRemoteControlSurfacesInterval 200) can’t be zero or you will see that. I tried this value to zero so i can save some bandwidth on the user side but this bug showed up.
(set g_nRemoteControlSurfacesInterval 1000)
This is what i have it set to now and all good.

Thanks Archer! I will try and get back to you. Is the server.cfg in this directory? C:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Config I can’t find it but then again I haven’t yet hosted on this current install.
@Drillin, I think he’s using 1024 also. We tend to use the rule of thumb “About 75% of your upload speed in kilo bits” for hosting since 4.32 - is that still a valid metric?
Thanks everyone for the extremely fast responses.

It’s in that folder but is the falcon bms.cfg file. You can open it with Notepad, it’s under the MP section of the file. Change the variable and save the file.

Well if you’re using 1024 and he’s set to host at 1024, you are using all the BW he has allocated. Should be some ‘extra’ overhead, I think.
The rule of thumb was the host uses 75% of his upload as his BW setting. Clients all connect at 1024 (recommended).

Yep needs to be more room on the host side

Thanks again for the help everyone. Glad to be back and a part of this community.

Thanks for all the replies! I was the host in this instance, and my BW was 1024.
We will try everything listed here and hopefully solve the issue!
Good to see a community that is so quick to help each other out!

I saw this bug pretty frequently in both SP and MP. My solution, albeit a rather unorthodox and probably undesirable solution for most, was to simply disable wing fold for all the aircraft that have them. There’s a line in the aircrafts .cfg to do this but keep in mind that edits in the ACDATA folder may have undesirable consequences such as loss of multiplayer compatibility and/or connectivity.
It really boils down to what you are willing to sacrifice. For me, not being able to fold the wings is a far more desirable thing than seeing jets flying around with folded wings.
