Using F-18E sounds with F-18C/F-1650/52
-
Anyone know which files in the sounds folder are being used in the F-18E cockpit and the external afterburner.
I want to take these sounds and use them in the F-16 and F-18C. Just can’t find them. -
/Sim/acdata/ the plane you want, scroll down to snd and copy all
then go to /sim/acdata/f-18e and replace all existing snd from there

These are not sound files, and anyway there is no f-18E folder in the acdata folder.

sndSpdBrakeWind 142
sndOverSpeed1 191
sndOverSpeed2 192
sndGunStart 25
sndGunLoop 26
sndGunEnd 27… etc.
However, changing AC dat files may result in multi-player connection faults if the host has the AC dat ‘interlock’ enabled:
set g_bRequireSameAcdataMP 1

it’s a file, not folder

I don’t understand why these would change the sounds of the engines?
There is a sounds directory, and inside that is Engines -> Fighter -> F-18.That folder has the default F-18C cockpit sounds and the external afterburner, but they sound completely different from the F-18E cockpit sounds and the F-18E external afterburner sounds.
That code from the .dat file has nothing about engine sounds. It looks like volume values.
I have already succeeded in copying over F-16 sounds to the F-18 folder and changing the file names so everything matches, and this works because I can hear the difference in the F-18C cockpit.
But I have no idea where the sounds for the E model are, and I never had to mess with .dat files when I changed the sounds around. -
I have no idea why there are sound references in multiple different places. I’m just saying that there is ‘sound stuff’ where razo said there was.

Ah ok. Well now I’m even more confused on how this all works.
Is the guy that worked on BMS sounds available in the forums? -
If you follow my steps, it will use the sounds from the plane which you have the sounds copied from
you don’t need to change the sounds in a folder, just do what i said

Doing this will lock me out of multiplayer servers. I want to find a solution that doesn’t involve changing .dat files. But thanks for the feedback.

A lot of sounds are post-processed real-time, they take the stock *.ogg file and apply changes to them in the code to suit the required situation. A bit like the IVC radios for example - they take your actual voice and apply effects to make it sound more realistic. The external AB sound file you’re looking for might not be there to be found (as such).
