Sidewinder does not leave the rail
-
You say you are in AA mode. Are you sure you have AIM9 selected as current weapon on the SMS page of your MFD? If you also have AIM120 on the wings, AA mode will probably by default have those selected. Firing slammers requires longer pickle hold and an bugged FCR target (or fired in boresight as a maddog but that requires even more handling with the hotas).

Make sure the AIM-9’s are cooled.

Also not required to launch a sidewinder. Its required if you want it to track well, but it will leave the rail quite happily still warm.
-
Is your missile tracking anything? What’s the seeker diamond head on your HUD doing?

I can only speak from my experience, and I could not get the AIM-9 to fire while it was warm.

definitely irrelevant in terms of getting the missile to leave the rail.

I cant recall ever trying, so I will amend my statement: This one should be irrelevant in terms of getting the missile to leave the rail.

Does the keyboard command for pickle work? spacebar I think, I have tried loads of scenarios but cannot get missiles not to fire if conditions are met.
-
i assigned picke to my joy, master arm is on, aa master mode on , i press pickle but sidewinder does not shoot……ideas?
Have you tried Dogfight Mode? Should force AIM9 to be selected as missile?

What causes a condition where the seeker head diamond flashes and the missile doesn’t leave the rail? As an example, I’m flying straight and level, AA mode, Master Arm on, missile cooled, I am configured exactly as I would be in combat situation. I press the pickle, but no missile flies and the diamond flashes all the time I’m holding pickle in.

The diamond flashing means you are in range on the LMS. So, a condition where the diamond flashes and the missile doesnt leave the rail would be that you are behind a target at 1 mile with zero angles and overtake, with the target locked in a look up situation and the AAM mode active with an AIM-9 selected.
As per your original remark, whether or not the missile is tracking, you can launch just by pickling. Its pretty easy to do accidentally if you are not on top of your switchology (happened a few times in ODS).

Try with the ALT Release button. If it come off, the problem is link to your keystroke.

Well, that was my thought too always.
But coincidently today I was making a quick test flight and had AIM9LM loaded and as long as they were warm, I couldn’t get them off the rail. The second I pressed the warm (to cool) OSB on my SMS page I could pickle just fine. -
