Desert Storm/OEF/OIF
-
Hey fellow theater devs and what not, but has anyone started/thinking about creating a modern campaign such as Desert Storm or any of the theaters for the War On Terror in the Middle East ?? would be very exciting.
-
Already existing, or was existing in the past should I say. But now, it is no longer working for BMS (never really fully worked BTW) … don’t try it, you will loose “money”.
-
Awww that sucks, would’ve been nice theater to have.

The engine of Falcon 4 is simply not suitable for COIN environment.
ODS was a childplay thing in RL and would be more in Falcon 4 with similar force ratio and current modeling values.

here is what Ive got working as you see the terrain needs work
this is from FF6 and i am just practicing I dont know about the PMC problem though
-
I liked how big the map was but the campaigns are buggy and the terrain in not so good at all.
there is a Kuwait theater also that I just got working for 4.33.1 that malc made
for 4.32 -
Excuse my slightly off-topic question, starrats, but do you have both BMS 4.33 U1 AND FF6 installed on the same machine? For some reasons I’ve been pondering installing FF6, it’s just that I don’t want any software conflicts, BMS being my primary and most favourite sim.
-
yes I have both installed the only conflict is the registry 4.33.1 checks so there are better ways to deal with it but I uninstall microprose for ff6 and reinstall it for bms. but if you want to use both for flying I would suggest to partition your drive and have FF6 on a small partition.

Good to know this also, starrats.
I would be glad to learn more in the future, also given that region still seems on the ‘warm up’ political condition at my own eyes. With best regards,

Where did you get this screenshots from? I ask cos, for example, the Desert Storm label on the campaign select screen was done by me for Kuwait, as was the Kuwait Theater label at the top of the UI. The terrain screenshot looks like the top of Iran to me… but the planner map looks like it from a 128 segment theater.
-
hello Malc,
You are right! this is your Kuwait theater merged with ff6 desert storm. I am messing with the terrain for training only. I did this before I read some of your posts about it not working in BMS, hence the drop off in terrain. I wanted to figure out how to put your tiles on that giant map. the invisible ground I am flying over still has airports and bridges and stuff. I still dont even know what i am talking about with Terrain yet, but when I started doing this I was just thinking it would be nice to fly from Israel to the other side of Iraq and bomb a nuclear plant.that terrain screenshot and planner map are the same, almost entire mid east. BMS was able to read them without a problem only terrain and units were changed.
Is this still Mission Impossible ? Is there no way to put terrain around those buildings on the Invisible ground? these are terrain rookie questions but I am a rookie.and WHat is a COIN environment?

A heck of a lot of what works and what doesn’t work between Kuwait 4.32 > 4.33 was campaign files, and they’ve since been fixed
To be honest, I don’t know how 4.33 handles 128 segment terrain now, especially since the introduction of the Hi-res map option, which seems to double the distance between objectives in the standard 64 seg planner map. If I’m honest though, if by “Mission Impossible” you’re meaning a mid-east theater to encompass what you’ve laid out here, all the way from Cyprus to Bharain and beyond, I would call it “Mission Leave-It-Well-Alone” cos believe me, a 64 seg theater is more than enough work even for a dedicated team, never mind a 128 seg theater. A 64 seg theater L2 file will only cover a quarter of a 128 seg one. If you have simply copied across the L2/O2, then it isn’t near big enough to encompass your entire map.
While I have no issue with you or anyone else using the files and images I have created, I would prefer no-one to make them “public” without letting me know first. Not being “hissy”, but I’m sure you understand what I mean and where I’m coming from. The sharing of work is good, but certain things I would prefer to remain exclusive…
-
Not being Hissy Malc,
I should get with original developers before doing stuff like posting your theater after messing with it. that was a big mistake on my part.
To all developers this will not happen again by me.
My only lame excuse is that Being part of a internet community is kind of new to me. I will be more respectable of others efforts. -

Malc, can you post how you got the campaign files fixed? I would love to know. Maybe I could use your fix and get the ground units moving in Norway.

Quite easy Gav, I used Mission Commander which let me import directly from 4.32 into 4.33 using the Convert Mission tab then simply followed the steps as required, making the fixes as recommended along the way. I had to lose 1 x AK-47 unit, but in the grand scheme this is nothing. MC 0.5.0 did all the hard work for me! (Thanks Falcas)
