Campaigns Mission Planning…
-
Hi Guys,
I think I left Falcon for a while due to the high work load with mission planing. Now I’ve come back to BMS wanting to enjoy the great number of improvements and the amazing graphics, but still concerned about what assets are going to be covering my 6 when I’m out doing the real business.
I’ve searched and read what relevant posts I can find, and referred back to some great articles ….such as https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28325-Campaign-Guide-to-Mission-Planning .
I’ve also watched some great tutorials by Krause, as posted here on the forums and Arts links. But when it comes to managing the opening campaign I still feel I’m micromanaging with maximum effort, and for only small results
……So the question is, am I doing it right?
My fist strategy at Zero hour with Rolling Fire, KTO is:
Turn OFF all PAKS and priorities PAKS 13/17/11 along the designated FLOT
Set Target Type: Aircraft ; Mission Type : DCA to establish maximum air defenses.
This has now also removed control by HQ, as I understand. At this stage I am expecting to see, with my fingers crossed, a nice allocation of Air assets along the border. But this usually happens at a pace and random activity that would put your local ice cream delivery vans to shame! I have found that DPRK aircarft have pretty much flooded in and roam free to spread fear and panic among the populace and me ! I pretty sure that USAF and ROK doctrine wouldn’t support such an effort!
The other idea is to manage selected squadrons, having disassociated them from HQ, and to start planning defensive counter air flights individually. With DCA missions lasting for 30 minutes this equates to few missions being planed.
By my calculations, establishing 8 flights spaced by approx 18nm to cover the 144 nm across the FLOT, I estimated that it would take a minimum of 4 squadrons of aircraft to competently manage this task if there’s a 1 hour turn around for returning aircraft! Planning for 4 waves of A/c over approx 2hrs of flight time, the returned fist wave of A/c should be ready to roll and replenish flight for the 4th Wave of A/c. This is estimated for a Squadron of 18 A/c and DCA flights of 2.
OK so it’s just a game I here ya say, but a guy can pretend he’s a qualified F.C.I. (Fighter Combat Instructor) when F4 is running. So how much effort do you guys put in to mission planning and establishing a successfully run campaign?

OI select a squadron I join I wait for the first mision I brief and check weapons I select fly.
What u r asking is all custom and doesn’t have to do with right or wrong. It’s preference. U want it you do it. You don’t want you don’t do.
The campaign ain’t the core of falcon. It’s the trigger to make u a better virtual pilot or to stimulate u.
The core is master the beast and good planning and decision making while in the pit.
Not on the campaign parameters.
Unless u fancy an Uber chess.Edit: so not 2 b misunderstood. Good mission planning is essential for falcon.

Sorry,
In order to continue living with my family I had to sign contract that stipulates, every 5 minutes of game time ,I have to say out loud …… “it’s just a game!”
But seriously, I think it’s pretty cool to go fly among your fellow defenders, even if they are just AI muppets, and interact with them to a degree!
I’m fishing for ideas which will assist with quickly and efficiently establishing a DCA barrier, so I can wreak havoc behind enemy lines !

At the end of the day, it’s still a computer game, however you want to put it

Agreed it is accurate, fun and hard work and needs studying. But at the end of the day when you crash into the ground, pull -4 G happily, forget to do something that means you crash on take off etc, you have a coffee, have a think and then go back to it.
RL is very different. I have greatest respect for any real pilot.

How do you happily get to -4G? I haven’t managed to get there unhappily as yet…
Its a simulation. As it is an interactive simulation providing for problem solving capability, it meets the requirements to be termed a game (although so do individual exercises at Red Flag). It is a game.
Its calling it “just” a game that is the kicker

Are there any fundamentals in my videos I am missing OP? I was thinking of making another followup video.

Agreed. And I think that is where it works and why I have not bothered much with any other flight sim. I would have loved to have been a fast jet pilot, and I love F4 as I believe it gives more of a feel of a combat pilot through mission planning and workload. It is immersive, where any other flight sim I have played just is not there and feels as though I am down the arcade (even though the flight models are great etc).
