Weather Commander-What to expect

I expected that at 58 minutes into TR433_02_Navigation, that I would get sunny skies, but I didn’t. This was based on the WC animation for my 11033.fmap set at 135°, 30 knots. I also set the BMS weather control to 135° and 30 Knots. However, when I start TR433_02, freeze it so that I stay near steerpoint 8, and tab speed forward to 11:31, that’s 58 minutes past 10:33, I don’t get sunny skies near steerpoint 8.

Can someone say why sunny skies did not appear at steerpoint 8?

I’m not sure if it had been resolved by now, or if it is even related to this, but there is/was a bug where WC (wind) headings were reversed in BMS, so heading 135 would become 315, 360 would become 180 etc. Maybe this has something to do with your problem?

WIND direction 135° is wind blowing from SE to NW. WEATHER direction 135° is from NW to SE. WEATHER direction 135° is the whole weather mass, including wind, clouds, temp, and pressure moving from NW to SE. Well, I tried Weather Direction both ways in BMS, 135° and 315°. No sun either way. There is a bug in BMS with WIND direction, as the DED display of the WIND direction is the opposite of what WC says is wind direction. Seems like a bug in BMS for WEATHER direction, also.

I’m using this, and aside from being easy to use, everything seems to be working fine as well.

there is a bug with local wind direction when weather is saved . Save it two times as workaround

First of all, thanks to Mav for the tip on correcting the wind problem. And I agree with everyone who says Tyrant’s Weathergen app is cool. I used it to make my fmap and then modified it in WC. OK guys, I just can’t agree that everything is working fine in WC. My fmap WC animation shows that steerpoint 2 should be in sunny skies at these times

This is because there is an interpolation here , as your sunny area is touching inclement and poor cells , a lot of adjacent sunny cells will be converted in game in inclement - poor / poor/poor - fair /fair/ fair - sunny with additional TIME interpolation when transiting to those cells …
What I am saying is that most of your east sunny cells will not be sunny in game . You re only sunny cell will likely be your west cells , those touching fair cells…
All this weather system is designed to prevent any brutal changes that the GfX engine is unable to display correctly in space.
For instance imagine you are in a sunny area with a inclement cell (storm) in front of you . The GfX engine is unable to draw fog or rain locally under this distant storm cell . So you would see sunny atmosphere under the distant storm which would look weird .
So the BMS weather system is quite complex in order to maximize visual experience.
The test you are making : sunny in the middle of inclement demonstrates all this interpolation process

you are under a dark cloud and you see the sun shine in a few miles… or vice versa…
I believe jc1 wanted to do something like that.as it is you see everywhere the same. right?

The GfX engine can not do that. The only thing I managed is to display stratus cloud far away and that looks OK. But when you are in poor or inclement you can see cumulus far away but the atmospheric conditions (colors and visibility ) are the ones in you current cell that is interpolated from the 8 cells around and interpolated with time when cell status change.
It’s difficult to explain in writing …what matters is global weather experience

I understand what you mean. I wrote it mostly to make clear that some things obvious to some or used from other sims just ain’t feasible with falcon gfx engine.

Hey Mav, your interpolation explanation made much sense to me because very likely in real weather there is no discrete line of demarcation between sunny, fair, poor and inclement. And your explanation gave assurances that if I got far enough west, then I should see sunny skies. I really wanted to see the weather change to clear blue skies with no clouds, so I made another fmap with plenty of sunny cells. I chose TFR433_01 Ground Ops, set the weather direction 90° East, started on the runway, and just stayed there the whole time to watch the weather change. The next pictures show how the weather changed, beginning at 10:33.
WC start_____ 10:33 Runway in poor weather
WC 10 minutes10:43 Runway on border of poor/sunny. Rain falling
WC 24 minutes10:57 Rain stopped, but not sunny.
WC 1 hour____11:33 Runway not sunny, but WC says sunny
WC 2 hours___12:33 Runway not sunny, but WC says sunny
WC 4 hours___14:33 Runway with clouds, but WC say sunnyWell, I never did get to see clear blue sunny skies. At 10:43, 10:57, 11:33 and 12:33 the runway weather appears to be affected by the poor weather to the east. At 14:33 the runway weather appears to be affected by the fair weather to the west. I estimate that each weather cell is 13 square miles. What is that minimum number of cells in each direction away from a sunny cell that a non-sunny cell must be before it won’t have any affect on the sunny cell?
