"A licensed copy of Falcon 4.0 must be installed"

When trying to run the Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup I got the attached error.
-
Falcon 4.0 must now be installed on your PC in order to download the mod. The .exe will no longer suffice. If you don’t have a CD, the game is now available through GOG and Steam.
-
do you have a licensed copy of falcon 4 installed?
-
No, I don’t have original Falcon 4.0 installed. Besides that my original Falcon 4.0 CD has fractured, I doubt that I would be able to install it on 64 bit OS. In 1998 when I bought it most installers were 16 bit and they wont work with 64 bit OS’s.
-
I installed the CD I bought in '98, and no problem running 64 bit. The crack in your disc is going to be an issue, so I’d say head over to steam or gog and get to DL-ing!

Ok, then maybe it had 32 bit installer or then these newer Windows version have ability to execute 16 bit installers somehow. I haven’t actually bumped into this issue after I was not able to install software for my heart rate monitor to Windows XP x64 because it couldn’t run 16 bit installer and that was in year 2005.

I bought Falcon 4.0 for 6,99$ from Steam.

Deal of the Century!
Just wanted to add that you can get by on the minimum install, and if you are running Win 10, you may have to install in compatibility mode for Win7.
If you run into any issues, the answers can be found on this forum with a little effort in searching.
BMS 4.33/U1 gives you the option to run 64 or 32 bit modes in the Launch menu.
Enjoy!

The original Falcon 4.0 CD installs just fine to Win 7 x64. I had to go into safe mode to get it to install but it installed no problem that way. Did that just a few days ago due to complete re-install of Win 7 for new CPU/mobo/RAM.

not here, win7 64 bit, installed straight, no issue. Just be patient when you launch the installer, it needs timebut it does work fine

Same here. Even on W10 x64, the original CD installs fine.

But will Falcon 4.0 install on a 64-bit Windows 10 O/S before I go and then install BMS?
-
Short answer: Yes. Others have done it.
Not sure of any particular issues they may have had to overcome. Suggest searching for similar topics.

Where did you get the idea that Falcon was 16 bit. It is and always has been a 32bit Application.
And for any others that might be confused we have been running 32 bit apps in a 64 bit environment (Win7) for many years.
16 bit can only address 65536 bits or 64Kib or 8KiB and was the domain of Intel 286 (80286) in 1982 and still used in micro controllers & some older PLC.
I think Win XP 64 bit was a bit of a fail. At the time I dual booted 32bit XP and Win2k (Falcon ran well on 2k)

Also from memory, I beleive as of Windows 8, you can no longer (natively at least) run 16 bit apps. Original F4 is definitely 32bit
