Nooby - Warthog Question
-
I have a Warthog joystick and in previous games I’ve programmed keystrokes through the TARGET software. I tried it here, but didn’t work too well. I’m just getting into this SIM and have briefly looked at the other posts regarding Warthog usage. Problem is that the more posts I read, the more confused I get regarding game setup. As I can best understand, it seems better to use the in-game settings (go into the settings for the keystrokes - press the button you want to use, then save). I tried this and not all of the buttons seem to be recognized (such as the ones on the base of the throttle). Additionally, I successfully used the Target programming in the past (FSX) to use the BOAT switch to set up profiles for A/A, NAV and A/G with just the switch of the HAT switch. Is this possible to do in Falcon BMS?

Hello Macman,
have you looked into Kolbe’s excellent Key File Generator? It’s a bit daunting at first, but very helpful if you use the Warthog in DX mode (no TARGET programming required, with the warthog being listed as two separate devices, stick and throttle).
All the best,
Uwe
EDIT: You can find both the spreadsheet and documentation in your docs/keyfiles & input BMS folder.

Simple way to do this is to use somebody else’s profile. Ie morphine or mud. If you want your own then set all the dx buttons in target then edit key file to suit. Or use the key file editor. Which does take a little time to understand it

Yes this is possible. My setup is completely accomplished through TARGET and the BMS key file. I do not use any DX programming at all (go into the settings for the keystrokes - press the button you want to use, then save).

Are you sure about that Hoover? I thought the Warthog throttle has more switches/positions as the max limit dx buttons per device. I myself use dx settings and Target for the switches that don’t work with dx. I was under the impression most people work like that….

yes it is possible to not use target, can’t see the point though as target is easy to use and you can set the LED’s easy. I have set all the devices dx buttons for what I want. the switches which are not dx are set in target using the keyfile keystroke. This way I have not even needed a shift layer.
-
That’s what I meant, if you want to use all switches, so full functionality, you have to use Target. Correct?

Thanks for the assistance. I’ll try to use Stubbies recommendation as I’ve already spend considerable time programming the keystrokes through TARGET. I’ll try to figure out the BOAT switch to enable shift layering for multiple uses of buttons for NAV, A/G and A/A modes. I’d prefer to do this and keep things simple. If problems arise, I’ll check into using another’s profile (like MUD) and use the key editor. As an aside, I did play this game years ago. Switched to FSX. Now back to Falcon BSM due to the campaign action and dynamic AI. Here we go again on the learning curve - should be fun though.

boat switch was easy bsf A-A Bsm NAV bsb A-G. therefore in mid position it is on nav when moved forward it selects A-A. when you select back to mid Nav gets selected. the select it back and A-G mode is up All done with pulse. Use a spring return toggle switch and Led if you want layers or shifts.
-
That’s exactly what I want. I’ll try it. Sub101 - do you remember the keystrokes you programmed for this button - to do the layering?
-
let me have a look at my warthog profile. Okay for a layer I have used spring return toggle eorign, which give me I/o layers. For U M & D I have used psf psm & psb, I have ground ops set to D option. I can send you my profile and keyfile if you want to use as a reference. for l layer I have comms datalink set whilst in OM layer the same switch does hsd range increase.

You can use all buttons if you operate the stick and throttle as separate devices.
All the best, Uwe

Hoover - I tried yesterday to use the joystick independently and not use Target - Falcon did not recognize that I had a joystick connected. Everything was in keyboard mode only. I’ll check into it more this weekend as I feel like I’m taking a somewhat helter-skelter approach to my setup, you know, try this, try that, etc… Sub101 - if you could send me your profile and keyfile, that would be a much appreciated head start for me.

I took a long look at it tonight. Some two-way switches only give output in one position, some three-way switches have only two positions with outputs. So if I understand correctly, it’s necessary to use the release-button dx-setting. But this also means the Warthog switch position will not always be corresponding with the cockpit switch since there is only a release command (which will not be there if the switch is already in that position). Am I correct? And if yes, is there a work around?
Meanwhile I’m still trying to figure out the keyfile editor[emoji27]
