Throttle problem
-
Booted up today,
cougar not recognized ,
firmware not installed
ok disconnect throttle, update firmware.
connected throttle before removing USB !!!Now I only have the high end of full throw, on the throttle.
Any fixes for this, Probably something in the PCB?Is it the pot that needs to be replaced?
Don’t want to replace it, if it is not the problemThanks guys

Did you re-calibrate the device in HOTAS Cougar Control Panel?
-
yes , recalibrated
Funny but in the CCP, while manual calibration, it looked as though I have full Throw of the throttle?
-
Try reset AB?
When I restart my PC, I have to go into UI/Setup/Controllers and do a throttle sweep or my throttle will be out of cal.

What about in the windows HOTAS viewer?
-
CCP Viewer shows fault
Falcon Setup shows fault
will keep on serching forum.
looking at trouble shooting, part of driver installation instructions
I have Some Clues -
Not sure you got a solution.
Did you update firmware AGAIN…Had this problem recently, cougar not recognised. Firmware update, then throttle limited. Updated firmware again, and calibrated. Now working full. Unlikely to be pots, they are fairly reliable in my experience.

Had similar problem after moving to win8.1x64 , … Cougar was offline long 1-2 years, plugged in then noticed that throttle didn’t work at all…
so go re-flash, turned up even worse, firmware upgrade crashed in half operation… I’ve grew few gray hairs from that
Luckily had old winxp machine lying around and flashed there … since then … happy user. (was happy that failed flash didn’t need jtag)After that, (couldn’t sleep if I didn’t know why) …I’ve had to try again on win8.1x64 ,… it worked out without any problem… wtf. who knows…
could be some incompatibility stuff after Vista/x64 machines , usb ports currents … cable … never found out. Maybe that crappy stubxx203.dll error or something…100% it wasn’t pots failure or hw error. , … foxy is working just fine after.
Maybe we’ll discover what is behind throttle problem, sometime . I’m not encouraging experimenting
Cheers

This is confusing:
“Funny but in the CCP, while manual calibration, it looked as though I have full Throw of the throttle?”
Then later,
“CCP Viewer show fault”Does the throttle hav full throw in the CCP or not?
I agree with others that it’s not likely the hardware (pcb or pot), as they behave differently when they go bad. It’s more likely a Calibration issue (do manual and auto modes show this loss of full throw?) or a firmware download corruption issue when the TQS was plugged in during the flashing process. There is a cleaner program that comes within the Thrustmaster program install that does this. Then a reflash would follow.
The only hardware issue might be if the USB port doesn’t have the current power to drive the TQS properly. Never use a non-powered USB port for any primary controllers. I use MB back side primary USB ports and not the front panel ones.

Yep, use only direct usb on mb if can , NOT even those on brackets, case, …(sometimes quality of the wires are questionable)…
especially when flashing , calibrating. They are direct powered and since Cougar has already pretty long cable , there is certainly some Vdrop. Also try disconnecting every unnecessary usb device, especially portable hdd drives, everything else then keyb/mouse if on usb, if not ps2.
Just to be sure and have best results when doing more sensitive stuff…, flashing, programming, calibrating, for normal use you can use and unpowered hubs,
if Cougar behaves normal then it is ok since we are not writing into stick , just reading its output.Cheers
