@Red:
VFR: Overhead (declare autonomous final)
IFR: follow chartsI hardly use the vector options from ATC for now
Cool, sounds good. How does this deal with traffic on final or already in the ‘AI ATC pattern’? Say you fly over head, how do you know the airspace is clear, aside from using RADAR etc?
When you do come in on final, using either of the methods you mentioned, and you declare autonomous final, what do your AI flight members do?
-
if i’m VFR, I’m responsible for deconfliction.
I use my eyes, sensors, AFIS and Sa to see who is in the pattern, about to take off or following vectorswhat do your AI flight members do?
I fly MP, my flight members are human

BMS really stands out for its ATC system. It really works, and since the very first Falcon 4.0 it was, for me, a very nice and realistic touch.
It woudl be great if the ATC could use the published approach and departure procedures, so you could merge following charts and ATC.For now I follow the charts sometimes, other times I follow ATC. I enjoy both

I don’t think I’ve ever used vectors. Even in 4.32 I simply ignored the instructions and flew the overhead in VMC or flew the plates in IMC.
-
If the airport for landing has published charts, always by them. A good attention to the ATC for inbound/outbound traffic as also attention to instruments for possible near flights.

If you ignore ore vectors and land without permission, does it affect mission rating etc?
-
I’ve never seen such a consistently close poll…

The only problem with autonomous approach is during the Campaign. When you come back from a large package, if you do an autonomous approach most likely you’ll be asked to do missed approach because there are so many flights taking off / landing. They clear you in and once you get close they abort. Sometimes getting vectors is easier to get down.
Not sure if it reflects mission rating, I don’t think so.

This will be effective post 4.33.x …

Would be a good idea …

Yummy!

If it’s IFR: vectors to final for an ILS. Doing a full approach isn’t worth the effort
VFR then to initial for the overhead.

Yup, and the AI flight members freak out to. I was at 32nm out, and I requested an approach. Tower said I was too far out and to contact them at 30nm. As soon as I hit 30nm, #2 decided to request landing and turn immediately right, causing a colission and explosion. It was after an other very successfully mission, so I was not impressed! haha

1. I don’t usually fly with AI
2. If I do, I get them to RTB once we’re close to base
3. I then land behind them or if clear, declare an emergency
4. If I can’t be bothered, I just do an OHB. I get told off by tower so often it’s like a “welcome back!” message -

P, what I do may help with that , at least. When I hit 30 miles I’ll tell the AI wingie to RTB. Then after he/she does it’s thing I’ll call approach. I generally go autonomous as I fly Hornets and the Pattern is something I like to practice.
I have noticed, fairly frequently, that as I am doing so ATC is calling missed approach on others behind me. I assume I’m bumping AI out of the pattern. However, as I believe DJ wrote, I take responsibility to watch traffic around me.
