Please help another new pilot !!
-
Hi Guys. I have installed BMS after years away and think it great, and frustrating in equal measure. So far I have played about 5 hours mostly trying sort out issues rather than actually enjoying the process of learning the sim. My main sticking points are setting up my Warthog and second is something to do with TIR and field of view.
I’ve given up trying to load either Mud or Morphious profiles. I’ve gone over the steps so many times and watched a couple of youtube videos that make it sound easy. For what ever reason I cannot get half the functions to work on my warthog. So I have given up and gone back to a default “full” profile loaded. Is there any documentation that shows the default warthog settings (ie vanilla without any modification)??
The second thing is that I cannot see all of the HUD information unless I move really close to my monitor (then I cannot see the rest of the cockpit). Its as though the HUD is a different scale so I can only see parts of it at a time. I am pulling my hair out !!!
Please any help would be appreciated as i am getting so flipping frustrated. I just want to get myself into the training etc and start enjoying what I can see everyone else enjoying on youtube.
cheers
Chris

Did you “combine” the joystick and throttle? Did you load up the .key file in BMS?
As for the HUD, what resolution and FoV are you playing at?
-
Hi Ice,
Thanks for the reply. The FoV is set at default 60 degrees and I am running at 2560 x 1440.
Im not sure if I have combined the controls. When I go for the vanilla setup I can see my CH pedals, TM joystick and TM throttle all in the controls setup. If I load either Mud or Morphios and the .key file with Target (as per the youtube videos) I get something like generic controller 0 generic controller 1 with axis z / x / y etc. Sorry Im at work and cant exactly remember what it says. It does not say combined. Is there something I need to do in target

I can send you my TM profile and keyfile if you like.
I use the Target GUI to program the stick instead of using the script editor.
I am starting to learn the programming and can see the advantages with using it.
But my profile is spot on as far as the stick is concerned… as far as I can tell.
And the throttle is set to what I like but since it is not what is in the F-16 it is a little different.
But it should be a good starting point for you.
There are no issues with device sorting or anything like that.I don’t know about your FOV problem.

Thanks CoSho1, That would be great, I will definitely give it a go !! [email protected] is my email address. Im going to have a fiddle with some FoV options in a bit to see what i am doing wrong. I think I have changed something without knowing.

Sounds like it. Have a(nother) look at the BMS Manual chapter 9 for information on different view options and if that doesn’t help please post screenshots of your CONFIG pages and link to your falcon bms.cfg file (in the \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Config folder) so we can have a look.

IIRC, default FOV is 80…
And for Morphine’s profile, you need to go into Target and combine the throttle and joystick.
-
Try putting your head in “neutral” and resetting your FOV there (F12)
that should help your hud appearance problems. -
w/r to problems reading the hud, you can also set the z axis of your head tracker to “zoom in” on the view (I think the default zoom is on the mouse wheel). This way, you can move your head slightly toward the monitor and zoom in on the hud, other controls and switches. This also results in a very useful “binoculars” function when trying to spot air and ground targets (real pilots sometimes carry binos with them as well so I think that isn’t not “cheating” :D)
You can also use the Warthog in DX mode without any target software as two separate devices using a key file generated with Kolbes Key file Editor (check the “key files and input” folder in your docs directory).
All the best & enjoy BMS,
Uwe

FWIW I use a TM Warthog stick and a Cougar TQS on a TUSBA and TIR5, I do not use the Target software - everything is assigned in the sim under Setup, see attached screens for settings, on the Controllers page highlight an entry in the list, it will turn blue, then press the corresponding button on your controller rinse, repeat for all buttons, click Apply and remember and save your Keyfile with a new name to preserve the original, hopefully this will get you sorted?

Thanks guys for all the advice.
The field of View is sorted !! Went in to config when starting the game and changed it to 70 and bingo.
As for the key bindings, I read so much about loading profiles and Target that I didn’t realise you could simply change things in the controller setup !!! So using the vanilla “FULL” settings as the base i have gone through the main controls and set them to my Warthog. It now works brilliantly !! Im not sure if this made a difference but I originally had my stick and throttle connected via a USB hub. Now I have them connected directly.
I feel much happier now and have started shooting down MIGs !!!
I cant wait to start learning this great sim !!
Thanks again for the help
