FCR Manual DRAFT
-
New on Blk 40s and 50s? I’ve never heard of this.
“ESR” and I have no idea. It might be EPAF MLUs for all I know. Apparently it’s on APG-68v9/v10 as a RWS replacement.
-
It is ERS for Extended Range Search, this is the default mode on the -68(v)9 with MMC5000 & MMC7000 that replaced RWS. RWS was present up to (v)8.
-
rmax shacked it with his explanation of how to use the CATA cross to set lag and lead.
Just to be clear, do you mean he nailed it? Or are you saying he effed it up? I’m assuming the former.
-
He nailed it. Shack is the term used when a bomb nails the target (e.g. if you drop a bomb and it hits the target, the RCO will call and score it as a “SHACK”).
-
Thanks for all your work. It is a huge task to research and write a document. I’m looking forward to reading it.
-

EPAF MLUs don’t have it. They have the APG-66v2 with RWS.
They can run TWS up to 4bar 60az as long as there is no cursor target.

Is everything in this manual applicable to BMS?
^ this is very important
I expect this discussion to quickly shift to the real stuff where everybody will add his own culture about radar systems in general, F-16 radar in particular and the minutes details that may be changing from one tape to another or from one contry export program to another.
Although the real stuff is very interesting, i hope the author of the document will see the importance of having such document not polluted by real life facts which have no consequences in the sim.
From what i read so far, the document is pretty well focusd on BMS and not on the minute details of the real life radar as discussed in this topic.I hope it stays that way with focus on what is available in BMS. Otherwise this document will quickly be useless as a didactic tool for the sim.
-
Updated the first version. Generally adopted most of what has been written here + some changes to diagrams. Again comments welcomed.
-
I find it hard to sit and “study” manuals after having read most of them piecemeal over the last 20 years but I think I could do this one. ( I come from a electrical/engineering background, with a particular personal interest in emf transmission/reception )
-
Great effort = thanks!
-
I didn’t read it all yet, but great doc so far
However, I noticed some syntax mistakes:
Page 10:
The radar cannot scan the entire volume of space in front of the air-craft at the sametime. Hence to enable the detection the antenna will scan the volume in front of the aircraft.
Shouldn’t it be:
The radar cannot scan the entire volume of space in front of the aircraft at the same time. Hence to enable the detection**,** the antenna will scan the volume in front of the aircraft.
?
Actually, this sentence does not really make sense. It is like something is missing.

Appreciate of this MANUAL , Good job~
And a little problem here, can anyone confirm whether the VSR actually work in 433U2 ?
I can’t get it to work…I have return, tracks in RWS/TWS/LRS but when changing to VSR, the screen gone complete blank, no returns, can Not say whether Alert scan and Confirm scan works. anyone got luck?
-
VSR works for me (I had to use the mode to check the symbology was correct for the diagram). Having said that I have NEVER used it on a sortie! Perhaps I am missing something but RWS/TWS and ACM work for me.
-
I’ve run several test and use cm52 AM A-block15 types, none of them working correctly.
Even with dozen of bandit inbond on RWS/TWS, when switching to VSR, the screen gone slient. Occasionally there jump out a yellow return, after I try to lock , the STT can not be maintained and return gones too. And I find out the return is a tail aspect friendly(1 of 3 test aircraft) which is not suppose to appear on the screen(HPRF only concern headon target)
-
Another thing to be mentioned,I’m making a tutorial theseday,so I tested a lot. I found the TWS can guide up to 6 AIM120 simultaneously with all target correctly captured(before active 6 purple triangle displayed). And the Manual indicate 4 at maximum,no knowing if a bug or capability has been upgraded.
-
Which manual? Quote below is from the -34 (page 117). This section is unchanged from the 4.32 Manual.
Missile datalink has been fixed to allow you to support up to six missiles in flight. These may be fired on up to two targets (TTS) or up to six targets (TWS). You can get A/F pole and time remaining data for all six missiles if you have six in flight and provided that their intended targets are still present on the FCR as track files.
-
yeah,Thx to darkman, now we found another tiny bug in rmax’s Manual .
And what about the VSR ? Though I hardly use VSR in combat , but I still want to finger out whether it’s a bug or something else.

Where does the manual say it tracks 4 AMRAAMs. Can you point to the page number. Thanks.

Oh, So sorry, my fault, must mixed with some other reference I was cross checking. My bad.
-
Very nice job! A very needed radar comprehensive document! Extremely useful for those starting in Falcon from scratch.
After a fast reading I maybe noticed a little element missing: I think I did not see any mention to the aspect angle info showed on the upper left side of the MFD? They are not in the diagrams at least. Maybe a brief graphic explanation of the aspect angle and how is presented in the radar would be interesting…
Apologizing beforehand if it was there and I missed!
Cheers
