HTS and TGP
-
If a Harm target is designated with HTS (HAD), is the TGP supposed to automatically synchronize on the target?
-
Dont think the pinpoint accuracy exists to point the TGP directly at the HTS target… modern HTS stuff is a bit harder to get info on. If it creates a SPI, the TGP would try to point at it.
-
AFAIK TGP is not slaved to HAD/HTS.
-
In BMS TGP is slaved to HTS only when you have HARM selected. Without HARM you are not able to slave TGP to HTS in BMS.
IRL modern HTS allows for SPI creation and TGP slaving no matters if there is HARM or not. You can even drop JDAM on modern HTS IRL but not in BMS.Real HTS can work in network and triangulate position. It has been discussed at least 2 times here.

Is it actually slaved to the HTS, or to the AGM-88? Seems more like it’s acting on the weapon…not saying that’s “wrong”, just curious about how it really works.

Thanks. I did not know that. …. something new everyday.

The training.pdf for TR433_12_Harm p116 shows a HAD TD box.
I cannot get that TD box to appear, just the weapon LOS, as in this pictureHow do you get the HAD TD box to appear?

Once you lock something in the HAD you should see the HAD circle in the HUD.

the HAD TD box is not a box, it’s a circle
it’s in the middle of your HUD there

Hey I-Hawk and CIK, do you guys say that the training.pdf p116 is in error?
In addition, p115 of the training.pdf shows a TD box and Weapon LOS circle.

huh. let me check for you.
edit: i’ll probably be pounced by the crimson hound that lurks these forums, but after a little test-run with that exact TE, i do not see a TD box (and i can’t see how i would have screwed it up considering i’ve used this system for hundreds of hours in exactly the manner instructed.)
anecdotal, but i have zero memories of ever seeing a TD box displayed while in HTS mode (and i checked HAS too; none there either) as far as i know, there is no such box and the only thing you should see is the seeker LOS (represented by the circle on the ground; usually indicating the position of the emitting radar you have acquired)
it may just be wrong in this case. but i mean… there’s a screenshot there.
and there’s no reason to somehow fabricate the screenshot so…
i’m not sure what to think.

It would be great if we could have the HAD designate target on the hud regardless of weapon selected. CCIP a CBU on a SAM would be awesome.

Hehe, here’s the lurking crimson hound.
The training mission was written for 4.33. It worked as explained in the manual back then
But this was changed back after in 4.33.1 or 4.33.2 I can’t remember. and we somehow lost that capability. Being right or wrong I don’t know?
But that should explain this discrepancy.it may just be wrong in this case. but i mean… there’s a screenshot there.
and there’s no reason to somehow fabricate the screenshot so…Yep I didn’t photoshop that picture
[edit]
it’s indeed in the 4.33.1 changelog:Madee HAD target circle to be displayed on the HUD whenever HAD has a locked target, regardless if there is a HARM as selected weapon or not
- Added some randomness in the position of the circle position on the HUD. As HTS cannot supply exact positioning so position is estimated and so circle position. That will make HTS circle used as reference for TGP or markpoint, a bit more challenging

There was a PDF about it (goverment resorce), find it by yourself because i don’t wanna spend my whole life on searching this link again and again Link to this document was posted multiple times in various threads.
PS. I found it again: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=29675
Well i have nothing to do anyway so i could waste some time -

Tried that with HTS, TGP and HARM on board. No luck with TGP reacting to HAD lock.

Why do you think that the TGP should do that in the first place?
HTS can’t supply exact location like FCR or TGP can, so the HAD position is accurate only for generating a target circle at the estimated position of the target. This circle can be used to place the TD-Box (SPI) by the TGP in order to identify the target.
See e.g this video that I recorded back when the Delilah development was still in progress, at time 0:08 you see only the MFDs but you can see that I’m slewing the TGP to the location of the target, and how do I know that location, because in the HUD I’m moving the TD-Box to the position where the HAD circle is. So it’s not 100% accurate but as you can see in the vid, it’s accurate enough to get the Delilah to the neighborhood of the SA-6 battery and destroy the radar:

My bad, thank you!
