Two computers?
-
Hello.
Given that Falcon BMS makes intensive use of the processor, would there be an advantage in using two computers, connected by Ethernet or on the same Wifi network, one as a server and campaign support, and the other to fly in 3D? -
I would stick to a wired connection directly to the router / switch or to your other computer esp. for multiplayer flying.
All the best, Uwe

You’re right, putting the server-cpu-load on another computer relieves your cpu-pressure.
How much of a difference you will notice in-sim, idk.You should definately stick to wired connection.
cheers

haveign dedicated server for host in obviously a much better solution for the MP experience since the quality of the network code is impacted by the CPU Load

I have observed an approximate gain of 5-7 fps, both internally and externally (in cockpit, ramp start, Kimpo Tiger Spirit campaign, rises on average from 48 fps to 55 fps). In any case I notice the simulator more fluid and smooth. The server has been an laptop i5, 4 GB Ram, connected by Wi-Fi to the PC, which has an i7 6700 nvidia 1060, 16 GB Ram. The graphic configuration is in charge of the card, not the application. I have not been able to connect them by cable yet.

Reduce the gfx to the minimum for your server
Remove all shaders for instance and put it far from the FLOT

U can off load the server and see higher fps by replacing all dds files with empty ones.
In the past i have provided such files and is rather easy to do so.
From dos command you can get a list of files in txt.
U can create an empty dds file, well not entirely empty but just one pixel and make them all dxt5 it will be a few kb . Then with a auto rename copy tool you can replicate this empty dds and use the same dds file names as in the server installation.
The tool i used back then was using as naming source a txt file or you can copy paste the names in a batch file to do it.
It will look ugly but the system will use way less resources and you will not need an expensive vga.I must have posted this in the past with sharing such empty dds files for the stock installation, maybe it is in the hotlist.

I start the server, choose a flight, enter 3D, ramp start, put external view and leave with alt + tab. I thought I didn’t use graphic resources. Is this true?

Better to stay within cockpit but use the « hud only view »
The code prefers the host to be « in the cockpit »

I have connected the laptop cable server to the router, with it I do not use the wifi. In addition I have changed the dds for those containing a pixel only. Of course, the Navidia drivers are up to date.
The fps on the client PC rise, on the ground, on average to 58, with the graphics to the top.
Previously, on the server, the fps were 23. Currently they have risen quite a bit, which surely indicates an increase in overall performance. In cockpit, leaving the view facing the seat or its backrest, they stay at 45 fps. In external views they rise to 56 if the vision is oriented vertically directly on the f16. -

I thought the preferred method was Orbit View all the way zoomed out… when I do that on the VG Dedicated server, the CPU and also GPU usage drops by a good 10% at least. I have tried the various views (hud only, 2d, 3d) and that’s why I came to the conclusion that such advice (can’t remember where from) was correct/accurate.
Hate to pose a clarifying question when I’m sure you know what’s best… would just love to know for sure that this 10% is not what matters, but doing what the code prefers. Thanks Mav!

computer client FPS +61. No need 3D with these program.
